    Hi,

I really like the Theme especially that there are elements like Blank and Text that can structure a page well.
So I use them to design a static page as a starting page.
My Blog is on a seperate page using the default template,
not the page builder template from Make, which means I can use sidebars.
Now I would like to show a widget “recent arcticles” in a right sidebar on my startpage.
How can I implement this use case with Make?

I was surprised to notice that sidebars are not available when using using Make’s pagebuilder. I would like to understand the reason for this design decision. Not being able to use the powerful sidebars, when using the advantages of make seems
to me a high price ? I would like to use both. Any recommendation?

    Thanks,
    Uwe

  • Hi Uwe!

The sidebars aren’t available on the Page Builder because they are not compatible with the Page Builder’s layout, which allows some sections such as Gallery and Banner to span the full width of the screen.

In the Make Plus plugin, which adds additional functionality to the theme, there is a feature that allows you to convert columns in the Page Builder’s Text section into widget areas. This is probably your best bet if you want to use widgets on a Page Builder page.

    Hi Corey,

    Thanks for your information.
I suggest to adapt the layout in a way that the user can select
if gallery and banner span the full width of the screen or
if a page contains sidebar, so that gallery and banner span only the full width minus sidebar width.
It seems to me that making sidebars configurable is not a huge effort from a layout point of view. However I see the commercial point of view when people need to upgrade to get a kind of sidebar feature with the pagebuilder template.

Thanks for the feedback, Uwe. Designing an interface for the Page Builder where the availability of the sidebars would depend on which types of sections you’ve added, and how those sections are configured, would be really difficult, both technically and from a user experience perspective. However, it’s something we will think about more, as you are not the only one to make this request.
