    Hi Mike,

I’m not sure what going on here. I got directory structures that looks like this (I’ve coded what you see below somewhat for security purposes):

    public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/1112/files/bbtmp5export4fd…etc/wordpress

In the wordpress folder there seems to be a full version of wordpress, in other words wp_admin, wp_content, wp_content folders as well as wp_config-sample.php and so on.

So each blog directory has a “files” directory, and each files directory has in addition to a few other directories and a couple of files, up to ten directories of the type listed above (the bbtmp5export…..etc directories and each of these directories have the same last modified date of August 19th, 2012)!

Finally a more or less definitive answer on this perplexing subject! Where have you been for the past few months of my life!:-)

I’ve started building a multi-site as subdirectories and I’m up to 37 sites so far. I’d been wrestling with the idea of more or less starting over and moving to subdomains to try and take advantage of the external linking strategy that I believed might help with ranking and so on!

I cannot tell you how happy I am to learn that I do not have to and there is now NO advantage and just sticking with the staus quo of getting external links to good content is still the way forward.

Thank you very much Mika! Cheers!
