In reply to: iptables rule to allow plugin install through web interfaceIf you are installing through FTP then it normally works over port 20/21 if you are using a different mechanism then different ports will be needed.

In reply to: Reinstall prior to go live: now cannot edit any pages in wp-adminDo you have access to your error logs, if so check the error log for any errors and fatal errors. If you have any plugins that effect the edit/add screen you might want to disable them and see if that makes a difference.

In reply to: Update 4.2 fails to installThe issue is most likely one to do with file permissions, you may wish to manually update the files, downloading them from wordpress.org/download and then uploafing them in your sftp/ftp client.
You might want to check out https://wordpress.org/support/topic/read-this-first-%E2%80%93-wordpress-42-master-list?replies=5#post-6860958
What version of WordPress are you using? if you are using WordPress 4.1.2 then update to 4.1.3 or 4.2
If on 4.2 take a look at https://wordpress.org/support/topic/read-this-first-%E2%80%93-wordpress-42-master-list?replies=5#post-6860958

In reply to: add_query_arg() security flaw questionsNo, the quick fix is to update your plugins and if you haven’t already done so update to WordPress 4.2.
If your sites were set to auto-update a lot of the work will have been done for you.

In reply to: [WP Power Stats] A lovely dashboard replacementNot today.
We have to tread a fine line so ask developers who want to talk payments and such like off the forum and use them purely to provide free support. The developer doesn’t have to support anyone via the wp.org forums but when they do we ask they do it freely.
It goes the same way if a plugin or theme user wants to pay the developers, most developers have ways to contact them off site and I’m sure nearly alway happy to talk to you about paying for feature development.
To prevent this spiralling out of control I’m going to close this thread.

In reply to: Problem with my 4.1.2 upgradeThere are at least 7 people with what appears to be a minimum of 5 completely separate issues all trying to get help.
So to everyone but SeoPixie I strongly recommend you start a new thread with your issues, giving as much information as you can. If people continue to pile into this thread with different issues we are going to have to close it.
To clarify this thread is for the support question:
I can’t update nothing on my pages. Content, pictures, titles and descriptions and even pictures in slider that comes as part of one my websites, I can’t update nothing and nothing seems to be saved.
If that is not your issue, please do not post.

In reply to: Problem with my 4.1.2 upgradeFolks can you start your own threads, if you are having issues otherwise its going to get messy very quickly.
If you are on SQL Server:
By default WordPress supports MySQL as its database, if yu are using MS_SQL you probably had to make use of a dropin db.php it will be in wp_content/db.php you also probably have something in your mu-plugins folder.
You will need to check with the author of the dropin if there is a later version, as some mySQL queries will not run on SQL server.
Autoloaders… all with “TEST” in their names? What do Asgard, CakePHP, DokuWiki, Drupal, TYPO3Cms have to do with WordPress SEO? Auto loader of TYPO3 CMS for WordPress? Makes no sense at all. How about Shopware, Piwik, Zend, and so on!? I don´t think all that is okay.
So this plugin, like many popular plugins write automated tests, to check if things break, the testing suite they use is not WordPress specific but a general one for PHP. By ACCIDENT it would seem the test stuff got left in when they generated a version of the plugin.
Looking at this thread, a new version was released without this content. However if you downloaded the old version, that folder may still exist if the files were copied over and the folder wasn’t deleted during the update.
So to quickly summarise:
The folder is not dangerous or weird it’s perfectly normal and safe, to reduce size these folders normally get removed from plugins before a plugin release is done. To make the release as small as possible.
The mistake was spotted and a release was updated, however in some cases those files and folder may still be there. It’s safe to delete them.

In reply to: Stop Closing Unresolved Tech RequestsTo clarify the statement “certain users will get emails when comments are published”, I gather they need to be assigned a higher level of authority than I currently have word press set to before that occurs, can you confirm what level that needs to be also who are the “Certain users” that will get emails ?
By default, if a comment needs to be approved, the author and any administrator role users will receive an email asking them to check and approve or deny a comment.
If the comment is approved, the author of the post, receives emails regarding a new comment.
You can however use a plugin to change this behaviour a range of which can be found https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=subscribe+to+commentsEach works differently so you might want to look at a few, and work out which works in the scenario you want.
Also when you mention administrators getting an email are you referring to the admin of the lipcrack site ?
Yes, so users registered on your site with the role Administrator, so in most cases thats probably just the site owner. However you can give other people administrator role, either when adding them or through editing their profiles.
I will need to check some facts most of the messages stored on the server inform me why user’s did not get the message however I want to also make sure that the current host does not have something in place which would effect that message reaching its intended recipient.
While its always possible mail is not getting through, if you are receiving the new user name and password emails, then WordPress is at least able to send out email, and while not impossible its unlikely it could send one email out but not another. Normally if there is an issue no emails go out.
Possibly given all the information you have provided I’m hoping that with time once I change rolls of subscribers they will have more functionality open to them. Do you see that occurring with time the ability for a more user based workable environment? e.g if they want to send a private message to anther subscriber etc, etc.
This is where WordPress power comes into it’s own, as a lot of additional functionality can be added to your site through plugins. For example if you are looking to add more community features you might want to look at plugins like:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress/
Which provides a lot of additional features around users including private messaging, and it also has its own set of plugins to further extend it https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=buddypress
X-PHP-Script: http://www.lipcrack.com/blog/wp-login.php for 46.102.101.180
Briefly could you inform me what IP 46.102.101.180 is meant to be referencing in this message as it’s not one I am familiar with? It’s a header sent in the email, to identify the source of the email, what action triggered it and by whom (which mail server)

In reply to: Stop Closing Unresolved Tech RequestsHi there, I’m really sorry you been having problems and I’ve gone through the posts. I think you nailed it, when you said the confusion is over the word subscription.
WordPress, the software you would have downloaded and installed on your site does send email in very specific circumstances:
- When a user registers, both them and the administrators get an email
- When a user resets, their password, they get an email
- Certain users will get emails when comments are published
The email you have included in this reply, is an email being sent by the software, to a new user. Giving them their password so they can log into your site. The email is sent by WordPress the software automatically via your server, not through any third party by default.
Having looked at your site, I think I’m right in thinking what you are trying to do is:
Let people sign up to your site, and receive an email when you post a blog post?
By default WordPress has a user role called rather confusingly subscriber, this is the default role a user get’s if they sign up on their own. So if anyone uses the “register” link in your sidebar and goes through that process they will become a “subscriber”
Which means, they can access your dashboard wp-admin area, though don’t worry they can’t really do anything in there. Other then that it doesn’t offer them much in the way of other things they can do. Though if they comment on a post, they no longer need to fill in any of the contact information as its pre-filled.
Critically what subscriber doesn’t do by default in WordPress is actually email copies of the post to the user.
HOWEVER WordPress has thousands of plugins many of which can be found at wordpress.org/plugins including plugins that specifically designed to provide subscriptions for example: https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=email+subscriptions
Now you might already have one of these plugins installed and you can find which plugins you have installed by going into your admin area and clicking plugins. If you have a email subscription plugin listed, or if you have the plugin jetpack listed, check that its enabled and all the settings are correct. If in doubt feel free to ask.
So hopefully that has helped a bit:
- Your server which has WordPress on, sent the email you included in the previous post
- People who sign up to your site, through registration, become subscribers and receive an email like that one
- By default a subscriber doesn’t automatically receive email subscriptions, if you want to do that then you will need to use a plugin
Finally I just want to reemphasis I am a volunteer. WordPress is an open source software, which means hundreds of people help to make it, and it is available for free for anyone to use. While their are companies that make money selling services or products around WordPress they are not based on this site.
This site is maintained by volunteers, and it’s existence is funded through a charitable foundation with donations from corporate sponsors. Everyone here is simply trying to help people, because while some people are passionate about Football or Game of thrones we are passionate about a weird silly blogging software, and the idea that a community can build and give away something for free.
I really hope I have helped, and I’m going to mark this thread to notify me of follow ups so if you have any questions you can reply and I will do my best to get back to you. However I am UK based so when you see this I might well be asleep.
