We haven’t tried another shortener – we only have an account with bit.ly
We send the notifications to ping.fm
I just tried turning off the shortener and letting ping.fm do the work and it seemed to work…

What happens is it posts to facebook and such like this:
New Post – “puts in the correct title” –
no link or anything.
