Hi don’t worry about this question by me anymore.

    Used this slideshow instead.

    http://slideshow.hohli.com/
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/a-slideshow/

Simply put the code in a text widget where you can simply wrap the image code with link tags. Clean and simple.

    Thanks

Hi Don’t worry about the last question. Was easier to just use a different slide option so that there is always an image present and the white background is never revealed.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi alchymyth

    Thanks for the reply.

I inserted this into the functions and it did not work. However, I decided to try and insert the code in a standard text widget rather than the ‘(a) Slideshow’ widget and it now works correctly!

My only issue now is that the background of the widget is white and visible in some transitions. I tried wrapping a div round the code and changing the background colour in the css, but this did not work. I then tried to find the code responsible in the php, but I am not too hot with php.

Do you know a simple way to override the background colour on the text widget?

If not, thanks for your help so far.

Also, if you want your home page tab to link to the index file with the slideshow on, rather than a page called home, install this plugin…

    http://txfx.net/wordpress-plugins/page-links-to/

It enables you to link a page to a url of your choice rather than the default permalink.

    Hi

On the dancefloor theme, go to appearance/editor and then select the ‘options.php’ file.

In there you will see it says ‘auto false’ in the third option from the top. Change this to true and save.

This should make the slideshow appear. You can then change the images by adding featured events.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Apljdi

Carlos at Gorilla sorted this out for me. I said that I had read somewhere a good way round the issue was to install custom fields for featured articles. I was not able to do this myself, but he was and now this problem is resolved.

    Thanks

Ok, so I have been doing some more reading. I found that the ‘gallery.php’ file was inactive and potentially causing the problem. So I found a page that suggested I set-up a new file and locate it in a folder called ‘nggallery’ in my theme folder.

Now, rather than use the actual nextgen widget, using shortcode in a text widget enables you to force it to link to the correct php file…

    New php file…
    gallery-latestreleases.php

    Located here…
    wp-content/themes/dancefloor/nggallery

    Shortcode…
    [nggallery id=1 template=latestreleases]

So the slideshow works as before, but once again, the custom field links are not working and when you click on the image it simply brings in the next slide.

If anyone can help with this it would be great, as this is one of the last niggles I need to iron out.

    Hi Apljdi

Thanks for getting back to me.

That did seem to rectify the situation, so I got the client to purchase a higher level of the theme so that we can get forum support. Carlos at Gorilla is now looking into the issue and I will post back when we find a solution as it may be useful to others.

    Hello

I have also been having trouble with this with a site I am developing for a DJ friend. I am a graphic designer, ok with html and css, but new to php.

I have now replaced the custom fileds solution I found elsewhere with this one, including the extra amend by shauno. Instead of my images linking to a post they do not link at all. When you click them it activates the next slide. This makes me think that perhaps I have selected something in the options that is overriding the custom fields. Or one of my other plugins is causing a conflict.

Also, when I look at the code using chrome developer tools, there is no link showing wrapped around the images.

In the fields for each image I have simply inserted a standard google url:
    http://www.google.co.uk

Is this correct or do you also need the ‘href’ or to include a complete link code including the ‘img src’ etc?

    The development url is:

    http://www.atmosoft.co.uk

Any help would be gratefully received!
