Well I fixed it by simply resetting everything.

I’d still like to know what I did wrong so I can avoid the same thing happening in the future 🙂

Dev, if it helps I’ve just checked your site and it seems to be working OK. Your first link above takes me to a page with the first post titled “The Spirit CAM XviD-GYPSYHUNTER” and the second takes me to “Franz Ferdinand – Tonight Franz Ferdinand (2009)”.

All the posts returned in first page appear in both the Cam and Movies categories – could this be causing any confusion?

I’ve just installed super cache today so would be very interested in hearing if it is unreliable.

WordPress has been all about shiny new features and admin layouts, and little about fixing the underlying issues of the software. WordPress is a great program if you have < 100 posts. As soon as you try to scale, you run across all sorts of problems, redundant queries, pages being built dynamically even though there are no changes on them for months at a time, etc.

Yes this has been my impression as well. Reading through the 2.7 and [upcoming] 2.8 feature list I can see little tempting me to upgrade from 2.6 I installed just a few weeks ago. I’m not interested in making things easier or prettier for me, but in being able to offer a more functional site for the visitors.

I think maybe WordPress is possibly reaching the end of its life in the current incarnation. There seems to be little interest in adding real features or functionality. I see plenty of suggestions in these forums for useful additions, but even so, when asked to vote for what we want in the next release we only seem to be able to choose between mostly trivial rearrangements in the admin user interface.

This is a shame as I’ve been fairly impressed so far in the first few weeks of using it.

I’d add a second request for this. It really is most odd that anyone would think someone who just wants to post a comment is the slightest bit interested in all this gubbins.

99% of them will not even care to know it is they are using WordPress at all – why give them all this useless promotion material? It makes it all look very tacky and confusing to users.

    Hi Audrey

Sorry I cannot offer a solution as I have a very similar problem, except I exported/imported using an XML file. Some posts are cut off, seemingly randomly. Some after a couple of characters and some after a few lines. Some [long > 100 line] posts are complete.

Luckily, I am just testing out WordPress to see if it is suitable to use for a website, so I have not lost anything except a wasted week or so.

As the backup/restore gave me no errors I wonder how many WordPress users who have been diligently making backups do not realise they may not be able to restore their site if needed?

If something as basic as backup/restore does not work reliably then I cannot see WordPress is ready for serious use, which is a pity as it seems easier for a novice like me to configure than Drupal.

    Hi, Thanks for the reply.

No it’s not that, the posts just don’t have all the text even when you view them in the full article (or view the post in the editor).

Many of the posts are fine, but some of them just stop after 6 lines. There was no error from the XML import (or export on my PC).

Something else must be going on.

    Steve
