Thanks for your response. I started there with my host but have been unable to make any progress with them and they have directed me at plugin support.
Does it sound like port 587 is blocked in some way?

Sorry, we are using Zen as our theme.
I have another site which is live that I copied to make the new site. This enabled me to set up a test page with the plugin activated

In the lower yellow section to the right of the text is where I have set the sider to appear within the Metaphor Shortcodes, grid shortcode. As you will note there is nothing there, however inspecting the page I can find parts of it in HTML & CSS
I wish to upgrade to the pro version if I can get this working, so would be awesome to find and fix the cause of it not working

My site is not yet live so not the easiest to send you a link.
I am using Metaphor Shortcodes (https://wordpress.org/plugins/mtphr-shortcodes/) using the Grid shortcode
I will see what I can set up to give you a live example
