    Thanks Steven.

OK, to clarify, I go live by connecting the domain and WP installation in NetSol, not in WP?

    Thanks.

Worked. Thank you. Closing out this thread now.

Re the themes, while I did install through NetSol, I also got into WP and installed a bunch of themes myself intending to get rid of them after I’d selected one. And forgot to go back and do it.

Makes sense. I’ll reset the URL and see if that does it. Thanks.

Created the .htaccess file per the code WP gave me in Permalinks. Can’t seem to find my root directory. Lots of instructions online on how to do this–no two alike. Good lord, I wish Network Solutions had cPanel instead of this crap control panel it uses.

“htaccess rules Your htaccess file only contains core WordPress features.”

Otto and t-p: This was my missing “Run button.” I thought if I clicked Troubleshoot it would run and show results. This is not the case. As you already know, the results only show up if I go into the Dashboard. This makes no sense!–but okay, I’m in the dashboard.

    Here is what it says:
    ______________________________
” The REST API call gave the following unexpected result: (404)
    404: Page not found
This error is generated when there was no web page with the name you specified at the web site.

    Troubleshooting suggestions:

Ensure the page you are linking to exists in the correct folder.

Check your file name for case sensitivity . Index.htm is not the same as index.htm!

Temporarily disable any rewrite rules by renaming your .htaccess file if it exists.”
    ————————————————-

So it IS the REST API that’s causing me trouble. My file names are fine. I just created these pages, so they’re in the same folder where they started–nothing has changed there. That leaves renaming my .htaccess file. No idea where that is.

Thanks for your help with this.

JNashHawkins: Thanks, I’m hanging onto your posts just in case. Yes, I was using the block editor right from the start with the Super Blog theme.

Otto: I used the featured Health Check plugin. Haven’t used Imgur before, but let’s try it. To answer your questions, my hosting is Network Solutions, and yes the plugin fails to show any health check test results. (See images.) Thanks.

Otto: Health Check plugin is activated and I’ve clicked Troubleshoot. I see the tabs you’re talking about in the plugin screenshots, but those tabs never show up on my screen. Is there some sort of “Run” button for this plugin that I’m missing? It doesn’t seem to *do anything. All plugins except HC are currently disabled.

JNashHawkins: Thanks for the info on going back to the classic editor. I’m going to keep that option on hold for the moment. It may come to that.

NOTE: Looks like when I disabled my plugins it knocked me back to the Twenty-Nineteen theme. Still showing the original “updating failed” error with page changes. So my original theme (Super Blog) evidently isn’t the problem either.

I see a reply, but this page is not displaying correctly and it’s not obvious how to reply to comments. I activated the HealthCheck plugin, tried some things, nothing came up.

Re the new block editor (Gutenberg), it appears that yes I’m using that. I did disable all plugins, but without any change, so it doesn’t look like that’s the problem. Thanks for the response though. As I read all the other threads describing the “updating failed” problems others have experienced, it seems to be a problem with any number of causes & solutions.
