Posting speed depends on the server speed, we are using the WP API for creating posts.

This plugin doesn’t support Excel, its a CSV importer. Convert your xls(x) to .csv and import it.

Check with default theme, in general this wont cause any effect with import.

Category import module not supported is free version. And in post import you can only create main categories, not any sub category directly. You can assign already created sub category to posts in csv.
Check the readme for supported custom fields.
What custom post and custom field plugins used? And are you mentioning about featured image? Add more details.
Yes, but this is a performance limit to avoid time out issues. Normally it can be 1-10 rows per server request.
