  • Sounds nasty Thomasso but then I went to have a look at the gory scene and all I could see was this…

They may not be the roses that the “old saying mentions, but for the time of year, they are close enough. I took some time to “smell them, so to speak. They are out in full force covering every garden patch, field and ditch along the country side. They are the one true indicator that spring, the warmer weather and good times to come are around the corner. I needed the break with finals in the next couple of weeks. This could be my last time until mid April that I have this opportunity to do this. The walk around the park and down to the river was nice and relaxing. Hardly a soul around with the long weekend winding down. What a great day so far. smiling

    FYI

The WRC now has a theme browser similar in design to Alex King’s with over 190 themes on show.

Reviews are starting to come in from our contributors and we have quite a few new members.

I have to agree Jinsan. It’s great to see so many WP users jumping in and helping. The reviews that have been done so far, are constructive, honest and reflect the fact they have been done by people who know how WP works.

We are still in our early tages and have not ironed out every little option, such as template and/or structure of review itself, but they certainly make for good reading so far:)

Hmmmm….can I nominate it for the Content Competition too 🙂

If you would like to add a review yourself or comment on one that has already been reviewed, the more info the better…

Done now Root. But ummm, erm,,, well, there is a lot of judging and erm, like….well… do you have time to be looking at theme reviews….:P

Ok guys. Sorted out a few odds and ends. Perhaps the forum may be a better option than here though. All added – moderator status.

    Hi Joni.

Yes we have an appropriate category made 🙂

It is great to have you on board – thanks for giving up some of your time to help us out with this project.

Thanks to all who have taken an interest. With a few people banding together I am sure we can make the project a very valuable resource of information for all the themes listed.

I think any honest critique is acceptable and whereas one person may be very thorough, the next person may pick up on an aspect of a theme that has been missed until that time.

The other thing I had not mentioned is that the theme designers themselves are most welcome to provide their own review/guidelines and we can expand on this.

The way I see it – can we really have too much information?

We are still looking for people to get involved, so don’t be bashful, come on, come out and play 🙂

    @ Alex

I have absolutely no desire to paint you in a bad light Alex.

I asked you by email if you were able to share your theme browser with me and you sent me a reply saying no. End of story as far as I was concerned. The only mention I have made of it is trying to get other people to come up with something similar, both on this thread and on the WRC itself. To quote…

I asked Alex King if he would like to share his theme browser with me so that people could have an easy way to view the themes but he declined. If you would like to help make something in this area it would be much appreciated.

I have emailed Mr King asking for his assistance but unfortunately, he is unable to share his browser with us, so unless someone else with better coding skills than us is willing to help us out, the themes will have to stay as they are.

If you think those words are negative then I apologise. I had people commenting on this in the WRC in a negative light and I responded with…

I have no idea to be honest but I have no desire to pursue the matter with him. I made a request and he replied with:-
Unfortunately, it’s tied to other data in my backend systems – not easily portable.

That is his right and the end of the matter as far as I am concerned.
I just hope someone out there is willing to lend a hand. This list is for the WordPress community and if I can make it better, then I will do so.

    WOW!

To be honest I think this whole exercise has become a bit too hard to worry about and no matter what I try to do it seems to upset someone.

And people say this is a community? I have other words for it.

Good luck with it Joni – let me know by email when you have it ready for release ok 🙂

‘redirection limit for this url exceeeded’

Same here Joni – using FF 1.0 and 1024×768. HTH 🙂

    Ummm.
Can I just jump in here and say my little piece and then perhaps we can all move on.

I may have reacted too strongly in this thread but it came from a whole range of factors and culminated at this point. My apologies for causing any ‘tension’.

I set up the WordPress reference Centre some time ago, basically because at that time, I wanted a place to keep all of my links and resources for anything to do with making a WP site, all in one place.

As things happened, it grew and a few others started to get involved but at all times we kept it relatively neutral and tried to keep it as simple as possible – a resource – nothing more.

A few sites started to pick up on it and as we moved on to newer versions of WP, I recently spent a bit of time, like 24 hours straight almost, tidying it up, adding more resources and just trying to make it a good point for reference in finding things.

I had also spent a great deal of time compiling the Unofficial WP 1.5 Themes List which I hosted on my own blog and mirrored on the WRC. A few minor issues developed between macmanx and myself during this time but were soon resolved. From what I can see, macmanx is trying very hard to maintain the list within the Codex. I highly respect him for this but I personally [note: just my opinion at a personal level] do not like the Codex much. It confuses me and I find myself giving up on things. This is most likely related to my low intellect. I really do not know or care. As I say, it is just how I operate at a personal level.

A few other people started to appear on the scene in relation to the themes list and before we knew it, there seemed to be this ‘race’ between lists to have the biggest or best. Now at this point, I was beginning to think – it’s time I let the list go and move onto other pursuits. I offered to work with one of the list keepers but she declined and said she preferred to do things in her own way. No problem there I thought to myself – each to his/her own.
http://wordpress.org/support/topic.php?id=28600 [This may make things clearer here]

I had trouble with servers during all of this which complicated matters considerably. In the end I decided to move the list from my personal blog and keep it within the WRC so that it is neutral and nothing more than a resource for myself and others.

    So, can I please say.

    1. I am not remotely interested in being involved in a theme list race. The credit for all these themes should only go to the designers themselves. All I do is keep a list.

    2. I try to display every one of the themes at the WRC using Ryan’s Themeswitcher. Over 80% work as soon as you drop them in the folder but a few create headaches. I can do without headaches so I tend to leave those ones out. I asked Alex King if he would like to share his theme browser with me so that people could have an easy way to view the themes but he declined. If you would like to help make something in this area it would be much appreciated.

    3. The WRC http://wrc.os42.com is open to anyone and everyone. Use it or ignore it. It makes no difference to me to be honest. We are always welcoming new contributors and it is not there to compete with any other resource. It is simply a resource, presented in a simple, clean fashion.

I hope this clears up any issues and hope we can now return to the happy pursuit of running our own sites 🙂
