After trying to figure this out for a while, I almost switched to another plugin. I then remembered a site I had this running on with an older version, I grabbed that and used it for a few moments when I noticed a very helpful and friendly message below these two. I’ll post one of them.
Rounded Thumbnails style selected under the Custom Styles. Excerpt display is disabled.
I then updated the plugin to the latest one, and changing the style fixed my issue. I also see a very different UI in the newest version of the plugin. My suggestion would be to add these helpful messages back in. In hindsight it makes sense why they wouldn’t work, but I was planning to style things with CSS, and thus I had not visited the style tab yet, only concerning myself with the functionality at the time.
This can be safely deleted or whatever, as it does not add to anything constructively.
The problem was my functions.php file was not being saved over FTP for whatever reason, even though it said it was. Reconnecting solved the issue.
