Your advice solved the problem!
I went to cPanel and used the DB Management tool to repair the table.
After that, everything worked.

What I’m still not getting is the in-text citations.
I am seeing this error in the console. It looks relevant:

The stuff that’s supposed to be happening is in the back end, then, and you can’t tell from the front end what’s going on? I can look at files on my server. Is there anything I can tell you about? I REALLY want this to work again. There’s no good alternative to it.

What does that spinning wheel actually indicate? What specific call or calls is not happening, do you think?
