• Hi everybody, thanks for your help,

I’m using Firefox 60.9.0esr (64-bit) and Chrome 71.0.3578.98, and WordPress 5.4.1, and having trouble to make zotpress references work properly. As suggested, I am adding the “[zotpressInTextBib]” in the post/page, but the spinning wheel keeps showing instead of in-text references.
Any tip to fix this problem?
    tx.

If it was a general problem with browser and/or WP versions we’d see more threads I think; for my money, I don’t have any issues on multiple websites.

We need more details to troubleshoot here. E.g. @guripreto, you’re using [zotpressInTextBib] and it actually does show two references. Have you cited those two? Are all of the references you expect to see there cited, and available in the same library? Does it help to clear the ZotPress cache? (Go here to see connected accounts and clear the cache.)

Does the following kind of shortcode work?

    [zotpress items="4QR8CLKQ,"NRWQI624"]

    Hi Mark,

Yes, I’ve cited those two references along the text, where the wheels are showing ([zotpressInText item=”{4648743:4QR8CLKQ}”] and [zotpressInText item=”{4648743:NRWQI624}”]).

Yes, they are available in the same library (nickname Zotero). I did clear the ZotPress cache, but nothing change.

If I use the [zotpress items=”4QR8CLKQ,”NRWQI624″] shortcode the references appear partially, and a spinning wheel shows up again interrupting the rest of the references, as you can check in the same link.

A weird thing: when I am editing a post/page and click to see the modifications, to visualize (WP opens a new tab), everything goes fine with ZotPress references, including in-text shortcode… but the result is quite different when I am not connected or, at the same time, I try to visualize in other browser not connected in WP.

And do you by any chance have a caching plugin active?

Yes, using WP Super Cache… Just tried to deactivate it, but apparently no changes…

I recognise the issue you describe from my own testing of WP Super Cache. And the fact that the issue doesn’t occur when you preview a page or post shows it is indeed to do with caching (as WP Super Cache doesn’t cache previews).

Basically, caching kicks in before ZotPress is done rendering its content. If you can exclude the relevant page from caching (and delete/refresh the cache), or set a delay for when WP Super Cache should kick in, that should solve it.

    Hi Mark,

This cache issues is not familiar to me (don’t know how to “exclude the relevant page from caching” or set a delay for when WP Super Cache should kick in”), so that is what I did:
    – exclude WP Super Cache and Jetpack plugins
    – refresh Zotpress account cache
    – Clean data cache in Chrome and Firefox

    Still have the problem…

Mark, is there any possibility to relate this issue to the theme in use (Tiny Hestia)?

I’m having the spinning problem, too. I don’t get the citations even when I preview. I never get them… but last year it was working. I don’t know what it stopped working but it must have been with some update of WordPress.

What does that spinning wheel actually indicate? What specific call or calls is not happening, do you think?
