In reply to: How do I make “Search Media items” available to all?Found that the plugin ‘Search shortcode’ produced a working shortcode that could be used on a page protected by login. All now seems to work as I hoped.
Thanks again

In reply to: How do I make “Search Media items” available to all?Steve,
Many Thanks!
That almost does it , but, because the documentation doesn’t identify how to produce a search page/shortcode (it seems to depend on the standard WP Search Widget), it doesn’t keep the search behind a login and therefore defeats the privacy intended by logging in.I guess I need to post a question on the plugin support.
Gratefully

In reply to: [Sydney] Different header images on the topThe backup was eventually tested and proven so I took a punt and installed the ‘Unique Headers’ plugin over the Imprint Theme. All seems to be fine. The variety of images at the top of each page makes the whole site much more attractive.
Cheers

In reply to: 1&1 WordPress: testing a backup; Relate ‘Host’ to website URL?Steve,
Understood.
I’ll keep battling at the problem (and make copious notes for future use).
I am most grateful for your assistance.

In reply to: 1&1 WordPress: testing a backup; Relate ‘Host’ to website URL?Understood and thanks for your indulgence this afternoon.
By database number I meant the 9 digits in the allocated database determined by 1&1 i.e. the working database is identified as, for example, db123456789.db.1and1.com and the test website database has 9 different digits in the same format. When I modified the SQL file I changed one 9 digit for another 9 digit number.
BUT, and this may be your point, when I added ‘/backup’ to 943 locations to reflect where I had installed the test wordpress site, that would have changed the character count.
[BTW, I didn’t “move/clone” the site. I am trying to install the backup on a test website so there is no chance of this amateur messing up the working site. Maybe just semantics?]I will now use the tool you suggested to edit the backed up sql file to make the changes, but, I confess, I cannot see how the new location of the ‘other’ files in host/backup is made known to WordPress.
Thanks again for your time

In reply to: 1&1 WordPress: testing a backup; Relate ‘Host’ to website URL?The value I changed in wp_config was the database number allocated to the test website by 1&1 i.e. I assume this directs wordpress to the correct database – what is foxing me is what directs wordpress to the other files?
In the backup database options, I tried changing the home and siteurl in turn to the host reference – it made no difference!
So, I went back to the original working website database and searched it for where the ‘host’ reference may appear by searching each table for the 9 digit number using the firefox edit/find facility. This is what came up (Xx9 & YYY replace site specifics):-
a:5:{i:0;s:103:”/homepages/28/dXXXXXXXXX/htdocs/clickandbuilds/YYY/wp-content/themes/imprint/style.css”;i:2;s:110:”/homepages/28/dXXXXXXXXX/htdocs/clickandbuilds/YYY/wp-content/themes/imprint/editor-style.css”;i:3;s:104:”/homepages/28/dXXXXXXXXX/htdocs/clickandbuilds/YYY/wp-content/themes/imprint/single.php”;i:4;s:103:”/homepages/28/dXXXXXXXXX/htdocs/clickandbuilds/YYY/wp-content/themes/imprint/index.php”;i:5;s:104:”/homepages/28/dXXXXXXXXX/htdocs/clickandbuilds/YYY/wp-content/themes/imprint/header.php”;}
This is confirmed if I do a character search on the .sql file
Cheers (and sorry to be a pain)

In reply to: 1&1 WordPress: testing a backup; Relate ‘Host’ to website URL?I’ve looked everywhere but cannot find any wp_options (There are loads of other *options*.php but none contain any host reference).
BUT, there is an options table in the database. The first two lines are ‘siteurl’ and ‘home’. These are the items I would have changed in wp_config for the test database. They are both currently ‘sXXXXXXXXX.websitehome.co.uk/backup’. Perhaps one (not sure which) should be ‘homeXXXXXXXXX.1and1-data.host/backup’ ?

In reply to: 1&1 WordPress: testing a backup; Relate ‘Host’ to website URL?Thanks,
I’ll look into the external script version as I’m treating the file on my pc.
However, I don’t see how that will help link the host to the site URL because the host is not mentioned in the .sql file?

In reply to: Newbie: Menus & Submenus – is WP the right productImprint seems to have fitted the bill!
Good layer menus, easy to integrate wp_members.
Now working on having different headers on each page.

In reply to: [Sydney] Different header images on the topRoman
I have now made and stored a backup. It needs to be tested to check that it is truly a full backup. I am stumbling on this step because 1&1 allow me to upload the ‘other’ files i.e. not the sql to a host site (of the form ‘homeXXXXXXXXX.1and1-data.host). I cannot see how to relate this to the new website URL (sXXXXXXXXX.websitehome.co.uk/backup). The test website therefore cannot pick up all the stored images, theme etc.
I have successfully uploaded the sql file and changed wp_config to include the new database reference.
I think it best I open a new topic with this issue as it is not specifically to do with headers.

In reply to: [Sydney] Different header images on the topThanks Roman,
I’ll investigate that route.

In reply to: [Sydney] Different header images on the topHello all,
I am looking to solve the same issue.
Is it known if Unique Headers is compatible with the Imprint theme?
If not, is there any risk in trying it and, if it doesn’t work, deleting it?
TIA
Cheers
