Thanks so so much. Everything worked fine except one thing. The blog page.

Instead of http://www.agbphotographics.com/blog (though if you type that url you will get the AGB Blog page) the url for the page itself is http://www.agbphotographics.com/sample-page/blog/

I am guessing I should delete that page, create a new one. Then make it the blog page. Again, don’t want to mess things up before I jump.

    Lyle,

Thanks much. I was actually wanting to have the site in the root initially but something went haywire with it.

Just trying to get this straight, BEFORE doing anything:

I should make the General Settings for WordPress address (URL), http://www.agbphotographics.com and site address the same.

AFTER copying the /wordpress files to the root, I DELETE the .htaccess file that was in that folder.

Once that is done, I should be able to login in at: http://www.agbphotographics.com/wp-admin

Once back in, I go to the Plugins page and install and run Velvet Blue Update plugin, selecting all options but the last, then go back to Permalinks and switch from Default to Post Name choice which will regenerate another .htaccess file in the root folder.

Just don’t want to mess this up.

I tried adding that code to the .htaccess file in the root folder, first without this redirect string,

    Redirect /index.html http://agbphotographics.com/wordpress

and I got a 500 internal server error.

I did it with the above and still got a server error.

I tried adding Tara’s code to the .htaccess file in the WordPress folder and still got an internal server error.

I got my site back with just the redirect string being in the only thing in the .htaccess file in the root folder.

    The server is Linux, btw.

    Thanks for trying.

Along these lines I have a similar problem. I originally created this site at: http://www.agbphotographics.com/wordpress with WordPress and set to Post Name on the Permalinks list. I did this to work on the site while the previous non-WordPress version was still running in the root folder. Everything went beautifully.

Then it was time to make the site the main site, but after going through the steps to do so, copying index.php and the .htaccess file and putting in the root directory, changing the site address to http://www.agbphotographics.com, etc., Default permalinks work but when I try to change back to the Post Name permalinks, the site isn’t accessible.

I want the http://www.agbphotographics.com to be the only thing someone sees when they go to the home page.

Can someone please help? All posts on this are two years old and older.

    Thanks so much.

Hi – I have a different problem, which I’m not finding the answer to anywhere. I’m trying to get the names of the requesters of a download into the .csv log, not just their email addresses.

Over all the Email Before Download plugin works fine. Thank you.

Actually you have to manually upload the them – at least on GoDaddy.com.

    Here are their instructions:

You can use an FTP client to upload themes and plugins to the correct folder. We also provide a File Manager in our Hosting Control Center that allows you to upload .zip files and unarchive them on the server. This saves you the time of unarchiving them on your local computer and then having to create a folder on your hosting account.
To Upload Themes and Plugins Using File Manager

    1. Download the theme or plugin you want to use. Keep the file in the .zip format.
    2. Log in to your Account Manager.
    3. From the Products section, click Web Hosting.
    4. Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Launch.
    5. In the Content section, select File Manager.
    6. Browse to the wp-content folder and open either the themes or plugins folder.
    7. Click Upload and then click Browse to locate the theme or plugin you want to upload.
    8. Click Close after the file uploads.
    9. Select the file you uploaded and click Unarchive.
    10. Leave the Select Destination field unchanged and click OK.
