• Hi,

I am new to this forum, but not to wordpress & I need a bit of help please.

    I have a blog dave-hayes.com</>

Now I recently wrote a post, called google+how to find reps locally and trying to very clever, wanted to have the post read like that, as opposed to http://dave-hayes.com/p?=xxx so changed the permalink, in what I though was the right way!

Now, I seem stuck with a blog, which no matter what post I write, shows up as Page not found and would like to just have the dave-hayes.com as a normal link.

Any ideas as to what I should do.

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

  • Try this:

    – using FTP or the file manager of your hosting account, delete the existing .htaccess file
    – go to Setting > Permalinks > choose one of the default settings (perhaps Post name) > Save Changes (this will re-generate the .htaccess with the selected values)
    – refresh the site and check the links

Along these lines I have a similar problem. I originally created this site at: http://www.agbphotographics.com/wordpress with WordPress and set to Post Name on the Permalinks list. I did this to work on the site while the previous non-WordPress version was still running in the root folder. Everything went beautifully.

Then it was time to make the site the main site, but after going through the steps to do so, copying index.php and the .htaccess file and putting in the root directory, changing the site address to http://www.agbphotographics.com, etc., Default permalinks work but when I try to change back to the Post Name permalinks, the site isn’t accessible.

I want the http://www.agbphotographics.com to be the only thing someone sees when they go to the home page.

Can someone please help? All posts on this are two years old and older.

    Thanks so much.

    Lyle,

Thanks, I did exactly what you suggested and it worked.
