In reply to: Stop User Enumeration Plugin changesThank you both Steve and Clayton. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I’ll leave it as updated then.
I’ve checked and the plugin version is 1.3.7
Original version 1.3.7
Plugin URI: http://fullworks.net/
Author URI: http://fullworks.netModified version:1.3.7
Plugin URI: http://fullworks.net/wordpress-plugins/
Author URI: http://fullworks.net/wordpress-plugins/So the modification has been made to the original version. Perhaps the plugin developers just made an additional update. I had only updated to the new version yesterday.
Thanks Steve for the suggestion to contact the developer. I should have thought of that.
Thanks Clayton for your explanation. It looks like everything is legitimate.Have an awesome day.
Cheers

In reply to: How to remove Archives WidgetHi Prasad, many thanks for responding. Sorry about that. I’m using the Responsive Theme (that’s the name of the theme).
I think this theme must be quite different to normal versions, as there’s no way of deleting the widgets. You can’t move them, which makes me think that the problem may be that this is a fairly old version of the Theme. Here’s a list of the widgets (I’ve never see this many before):
Main Sidebar
Right Sidebar
Left Sidebar
Left Sidebar Half Page
Right Sidebar Half Page
Home Widget 1
Home Widget 2
Home Widget 3
Gallery Sidebar
Colophon Widget
Top Widget
Footer WidgetThe ‘In Archive’ widget appears in the inactive widgets, but it is still showing up on the home page, right hand side.
Do you know if there is a more recent version of this? That may solve the issue.
Again, thanks for your quick response.

In reply to: Latest version of Press This Tool – problemsWell, not so good news for me. 3 points:
1) I’ve now discovered that WP 4.2 requires the updated “Press This” [PT] tool, which I don’t like as much as the earlier version. Latest version:
1) doesn’t give you the option to edit post from the PT dialogue box. You have to go back into WP/Posts to make any changes. I always add the author and the date at the top of each article, plus a comment before the end backlink. I have to make sure I don’t forget to do this before publishing. Bit of a nuisance.
2) comes already italicised. Have to backspace to get it to normal font.2) Hostgator made the changes, which took a bit of sorting out (they actually had to see the error in action to fully understand what was happening). This also means that for any new website I create, I will have to contact Hostgator and go thru the whole process each time. Bit of mucking around.
3) So now, I have 3 websites updated to WP 4.2, consequently having to use the updated PT tool (not happy). I also have 2 websites with WP 4.1 and previous version of PT. I have to make the decision whether to stay with WP 4.1 or update to WP 4.2 and use newer version of PT.
I DO WISH developers would not make new versions ‘better’ … it invariably ends up not being ‘better’. This is not a case of not liking change; it means it now takes me longer to post articles.
I did try the previous workaround of copying/pasting from V1 of PT to V2 but that didn’t work. The code for the latest version is completely different – much longer.
Oh well, the ‘joys’ of modern technology.
Not the result I was looking for, but seems I’ll just have to get used to it. Haven’t made up my mind about updating my last 2 websites to 4.2.
Hope this helps – sort of.
Cheers Niki

In reply to: Latest version of Press This Tool – problemsHi Marius, I will be contacting Hostgator either later today or tomorrow so will let you know the outcome.
Here’s the link to the article:
http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/press-this/
You’ll have to scroll down to find the troubleshooting 404 suggestion.
I’m hoping that that will be the solution. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for your ongoing interest.

In reply to: Latest version of Press This Tool – problemsHi Marius, thank you for your quick response.
Yes I did upload the new version from my admin pages, but I got a 404 error message. In the previous versions, this error message came up for some of my websites, but I got around it by copying/pasting the code from one that worked and amending to suit the URL. This always worked for me, but when I tried to do the same this time around, it didn’t work properly. I could get the content into the blog, but the backlink to the originating site didn’t populate.
However, I found an article that talked about the 404 error and recommended contacting Hostgator to get them to make changes to allow it to work. That’s on my ‘to do’ list today.
Hopefully that fixes it. If not, I may have to use a plugin to do the same thing, but don’t really want to take this approach. Don’t like having too many plugins on my sites.
Are you able to recommend a plugin to do content curation, just in case I need to take this route?
Again, thanks heaps for letting me know that it does work and it’s not a problem with ‘Press This’. (Really love that tool – it’s been awesome – hope I can fix the issue and continue to use it).
Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
Cheers

In reply to: "Press This" function in WordPress does not connect to FBHi, I’m using the “Press This” function in WordPress in conjunction with Google Alerts that I’ve set up.
When a Google Alert comes in that I want to use in my curated content, I can either add it to the Website using “Press This” or use the Facebook function within in the email to post direct to Facebook.
I’ve now realised that it must be a Facebook limitation and recently got a message from Facebook that the action I was trying to take had been flagged as a security risk (or words to that effect).
I’ve raised a query with Facebook, but not sure if I will hear back from them.
They must have made some changes recently, as it used to work perfectly. So, to summarise, what I first thought may be a “Press This” issue, now appears to be a Facebook issue and it seems that they have made changes to their settings.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. Very much appreciated.

In reply to: Press This – WP toolHi Andrew, quick update.
Surprise, surprise, I’ve fixed the problem – I hope!
It seems to be working fine.
I copied the code from the ‘Press This’ tool that is working for my other website and pasted that into the one I’ve been having problems with, changed the domain name … and it works!
Fingers crossed.
Thanks for your interest and help.

In reply to: Press This – WP toolHi Andrew thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately, that didn’t help.
Pasting the ‘Press This’ tool straight into the toolbar didn’t work, so I right-clicked on the tool, got the code and pasted that into the URL. That doesn’t work either.
The error message from Hostgator comes up with a .htaccess issue so I’m inclined to think it must be something to do with Hostgator permissions, even though they don’t seem to think so.
But, it looks like I’ve come up against a brick wall, as Hostgator doesn’t seem to want to look into it any further.
Thanks for your help.

In reply to: Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content).Hi, thanks for responding. My apologies for not being clear. What I’m trying to do is create a WordPress site in XAMPP/LocalHost and when I try to upload plug-ins from my XAMPP directory I get the message: Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content). When I googled this, I found a lot of people are having the same issue, but not necessarily just in LocalHost. I’ve checked ALL permissions and fixed them where necessary. I’m now thinking of scrapping everything in LocalHost and starting again. I’ve wasted too much energy on it. This problem doesn’t occur on the Live Site, but I prefer to create/modify my site in LocalHost and then upload it online to ensure all plug-ins etc work together. If you have any solutions/suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Thanks again for responding.

In reply to: How to change blog to transparent so the background can be seenHi and thanks to you both.
Response to WPyogi – thank you. Unfortunately the site is still on my localhost. I’m not yet ready to launch it.
Response to shamratdewan – special thanks to you for that link. I’ve checked it out and it looks very informative. Until I have some time to play with the settings to see what I can get to work, I’ll leave it alone, but at least I have some valuable info to work with. Thanks heaps to you both for taking the time to respond. Love that people are so willing to share their knowledge – especially for us newbies and non-techies. Again, many thanks to you both.
