The titles work because it was a small bit of coding added in version 5.5 but i believe the description requires more coding hence never included.
place holders do not work in seo by yoast description

perfect in new version in title, still trying to figure out description although i have added a line in my formatting/single events with the placeholders.

I installed a copy local on my pc running xampp makes live so much more easy,
