To address the PHP warning message you’re seeing, it’s helpful to understand the specific context in which this error occurs. Since we don’t have that context, we have implemented a potential fix that we believe may resolve the issue.
This fix will be included in our upcoming plugin update (version 4.9.6), which will be released soon. Once the update is available, please install it and let us know if the issue persists.

That message is shown when nonce verification fails, which shouldn’t happen. If you refresh the page, and search for the same author, do you get any result?
And would you mind explaining what you mean with “authors that exist at times”?

I see. I’ve just checked on our testing server and post counters are getting updated when an author is assigned/removed to/from a post. So it could be a conflict with either your theme or another plugin. Would it be possible for you to check for a plugin conflict? Here you have a support article on how to do that. If not, do you have a staging site we can use to look into it?

Maybe that “top 5” plugin is picking the post count ignoring our numbers? If you go to Authors > View All, is the count displayed on the “Entries” column correct?
You can share those screenshots using our support ticket form here (in the last step you can upload as many files as you wish).
