In reply to: Blog DissappearedOK, I now have the full story. I kept calling Verizon as nothing I was doing seemed to work. The Tech support guy tonight finally told me that they had a failure of their system that not only obliterated our database, but also the backups they maintain. He said an email wnet out (never got that) over the weekend that explained everything.
Is there no other storage of the text in the posts in WordPress (compressed, archized etc.) that would allow for recreation of the posts?
I could probably pull the cached web pages from past visits, but the posts go back to June so this might have a limited effect.
Verizon made this a Very Merry Christmas…..NOT!!

In reply to: Blog DissappearedOK, I have been able to install the phpMyAdmin onto the server (no one bothred to say that it needed to be installed, everyone seemed to assume it was just already there).
Now I can get the login page, however, it won’t let me in, it says
#2002 – The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server’s socket is not correctly configured)
I have not been able to find someone with a similar situation (most of the posts I have seen show a local host).
Verizon assures me everything is fine on their end and they are able to login and see the files, database etc using terminal.
If I know that the login credentials are correct, is there an easy fix that anyone knows of for this in the configuration files?

In reply to: Blog DissappearedThanks for the initial help, but I did as you (Whooami) asked and responded with the answer, then no more help, probably the problem with using “free” software, no one can really help when something goes wrong.

In reply to: Blog DissappearedOK, I downloaded everything from the server back to my PC from the website, which should include all of the data stored in the Blog (in theory).
Since it is looking like I cannot access the phpmyadmin, I am thinking it might be worth while to try to do the install again as it is asking for now. The only holdback I have is how this came to be in the first place, I don’t want to do it ovr and over again if something in thee is messed up.

In reply to: Blog DissappearedI went to Verizon’s applet for accessing and there is nothing that allows you access to phpmyadmin, you can only add support for PHP for the site.

In reply to: Blog DissappearedI spent several hours on the phone with Veriozn (the first hour an a half without any help as it seems that not too many of their help staff know you can build your own site without using thier software and just uploading it to thier server), however, when I did get someone in the hosting tech support area, I was told that they can assist restorin the file structrue of the website itself, but they don’t support things like Blogs that you add to their server (other than them adding PHP support for recognition of the files, like Front Page Extensions).

In reply to: Blog DissappearedLenK, your guide is great, but I cannot get to the login, is there a special trick to get to it. I don’t even see a phpmyadmin listed in the file structure anywhere.

In reply to: Blog DissappearedOK, I have not been able to get to much of anything as it comes back to the install page when trying to get to anything else.
Verizon dos have a way of looking at the files (FTP) and some features, but I did not see an applet that gave me access to phpmyadmin. I will go back and try. If I have to reload, is there a file (or setof files I should pull back off of the serever that have our posts? I don’t want to lose them.

In reply to: Blog DissappearedI am not familiar with phpmyadmin, is there any kind of user guide for this kind of problem to walk me though it?

In reply to: Blog DissappearedI also contacted Verizon (our site is hosted by them) to see if there is anything going on at their end of things. They saw the same problem and said that there seems to be a problem with the index page and that it comes up as missing or blank.
We don’t mess with any of the settings on the Blog and only post to it, so I don’t understand how it could get messed up.
In looking through the “folder” on the server, I can see the pictures and such from the posts, but I am not familiar enough with the file structure to see the actual posts.
I would really like to get the Blog back up and running, but I don’t want to obliterate anything by just reinstalling.

In reply to: Blog DissappearedThe site is http://JoesPlace.org and on the bottom of the main page it has a ling to the Blog (Joe’s Blog) that used to open the Blog and we could acess it there. Then, this weekend it started to give the generic 500 error. And now, since the original posting, it now goes straight to the Word Press installation process.
I don’t get it, we have not done anything to the site to affect this portion of it and the rest of the site remains unaffected.
I believe it is version 2.6, but since I can’ get in, I can only go off of my recollection.
