In reply to: Plugin Announce: WP-Dash 1.0I found out what you mean with slashes, so the notes widget has been updated to fix that trouble. (This is what I get for rushing through things)

In reply to: Please help – Can not see my blog (working at this for awhile)Your server probably doesn’t have DirectoryIndex index.php set anywhere, which means that you’ll have to manually add /index.php to the URI to get it to work. Contact your host and ask them to fix their DirectoryIndex

In reply to: Posts, Pages and ‘Bits’??What you’re describing is very possible while still storing content in the posts namespace (you just add a new post_status called bits) and then functions to pull out the bits based on args. I don’t have enough time for this, but someone else may.

In reply to: Posts, Pages and ‘Bits’??I think the best way to accomplish this would be using the same method as asides (posting posts in a category) instead of trying to reinvent the posting system. You can have categories excluded from the main page, from the archives, etc., and then write your own functions to pull bits out of that category.

In reply to: Plugin Announce: WP-Dash 1.0Thanks Jalenack
I just uploaded a new version, that fixes a few minor bugs. Widgets now gain focus when clicked and the RSS aggregator doesn’t flip out on a bad feed.

In reply to: RSS-related1) One of the reasons that RSS feeds were created was to take some of the bandwidth off of image-intensive sites. The only reason that RSS might hurt is if everybody refreshes it every 5 minutes instead of bi-hourly or so
2) No, you can’t be hacked (as far as everybody knows). Yes, they could steal bandwidth with it, but it’d be a lot less than if they were loading your site constantly.

In reply to: WP won’t show a static pageFirst, upgrade, as you are in grave danger!
Second, make sure your theme doesn’t have some abnormal alteration to the loop by which that page might be disreguarded (modifications of query_posts()), etc.

In reply to: Configuring the upload functionFirst, you have a stray semicolon, it’s helping nothing.
Secondly, try linking directly to your wp-content folder with an absolute path, http://eastleigh-scouts.org.uk/districtscouts/wp-content/ would be my guess at the path.

In reply to: Can’t upload. ——WarningThis means that you do not have sufficient permissions to upload files to the directory you specified. You need to chmod the folder to be writable by the server.

In reply to: Admin panel user section error…To confirm, the above is 1.6 code. capabilities.php doesn’t even exist before 1.6. As Podz said, 1.6 is unsupported, and the only reason you should be using 1.6 is if you are a test (in which case this post belongs on the WP-Testers mailing list) or if you are capable of writing PHP in your sleep (in which case patches belong at http://trac.wordpress.org/ )
