    Hi jacaldwell,

I sent you an email reply already – hoping to receive some access details so I can investigate this problem, which I have not heard of before. We will try to get it resolved for you as quickly as possible.

    Best wishes,
    //Marcus.

    Hi biodynamicworld,

We don’t have the functionality to display messages on a public page yet. It’s only in the Premium plugin that members can log in and view messages that the admin has chosen to keep in the Archive.

On the development roadmap, we do have this functionality listed, as well as a shortcode to allow people to post messages to the mailing group directly from the website, instead of having to use their own email clients. This will likely be ready in Jan / Feb 2016.

    Best wishes,
    Marcus.

    Hi duka-dogo,

We have been looking into this very extensively over the last months with assistance from a number of different users, and we have come to the following conclusion:

The reason you don’t see these characters properly is that the “encoding” of your blog is not UTF-8. WordPress stores content in a MYSQL database encoded as UTF-8, so if for some reason your MYSQL encoding in not UTF-8, you will not see these characters properly.
If you wish to change the default character set for your blog, please find the guide here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Converting_Database_Character_Sets.

PS: This must be done carefully and requires at least basic knowledge of MySQL. We can also do it for you for a flat fee of $50, as it is beyond even the Premium level of support we can offer, as it is unrelated to the plugin, and based on your particular server setup.

    Best wishes,
    Marcus.

It is actually a requested feature that the sender also receives the email, as a sort of “return-receipt” to show that it did reach the whole group.
Originally, we did not send the email to the sender, but users requested that we do so.

We will look at an option to turn that off in a later plugin release, as a “nice to have” as opposed to a “critical fix” πŸ™‚

And thank you for your offer about German translation. I am following up with you about that via email.

    Hi Felix,

Thank you for sending through your observations! This looks like an actual bug, and we will implement a fix for it in the next release. It’s very helpful for us indeed that you are sending through your comments, so we can continue to improve the plugin.

    Thanks again!
    Marcus.

    Hi Felix,

    Great suggestion! Thank you πŸ™‚
We will get that added to the next plugin release.

    Best wishes,

    Hi RobertFontaine,

Would you be willing to send me your wp-admin and CPanel access details via email at marcus@chaospilots.com? We don’t think it is a bug, but something about your specific server setup, and we are unfortunately not able to debug that without having a look around on it…

    Best wishes,
    Marcus.

    Hi Eusebito,
Just to let you know that in the brand new v.1.3 release, we have worked extensively on getting special HTML characters from different languages to work well. Perhaps you could check how the French characters are looking now…?

If you do come across any characters that do not display properly, we would love to know, so we can also fix those.

    Thank you!

    Hey Ed,

Thanks! I just saw your post now — we will include a fix for this little issue in the next release, which will be version 1.3!

    Best wishes,

    Hi Tim,

Like I have said to you in direct emails before, I understand you are frustrated and would love to have a smoothly running plugin installation on your server. I have also explained that there are specific setup issues with your server that we have been working on.

Consider the size of the task we have with trying to get this plugin to work on every single client’s server with so many different possible configurations for mailing sending, storage and receiving! We are doing our best to serve the WordPress community with this plugin, which other users can appreciate the difficulty of, if you look in the plugin’s forum.

We already fixed the special circumstance on your server that meant mail from the groups was not being sent out.

Following that, each issue you have alerted us about has been either resolved or added to the bug fix / improvement queue for the next version, due out this week. On that basis, why the need to warn people off from buying our Premium plugin, which is what helps to fund the development for more and more improved features? How does that serve anyone, including you?

Most of the issues you have told us about were related to the Moderation feature, which was introduced in the latest plugin version by popular demand, and it is still being developed now. Specific problems also came up for you because you are running what sound like very large mailing groups, and this is not something we have been able to test for on this scale till now, re. pagination in the Archive and Moderation queue. This also made the Search functionality dysfunctional, because of the size of your lists.

We appreciate you alerting us to these issues, like the reports we get from other users, so we can continue to tweak settings and implement new programming to deal with scenarios we had not foreseen.

To say about the Premium version that “it doesn’t work yet in most regards” is a vast exaggeration, which does not do justice to the functionality which is in place and completely stable. You follow this by the comment “If you need the features in the premium version, don’t buy it yet”.

Let me address this “warning” you give to potential users very specifically so that people have the chance to make up their own minds about the Premium plugin version:

    – If a user needs multiple mailing groups with unlimited user numbers, which is the main premise of the Premium version, then that works.
    – If a user wants to save all group messages to the Archive, and use auto-deletion features with that, then that also works.
    – If the user wants to import users from VCF files, that works.
    – If the user wants to use any of the other features that are also available in the Free version of the plugin, including an optional prefix with the group’s name in all email subject lines, multiple ways to configuring the mail-sending options (WP Mail / PHP Mail / External SMTP), setting bespoke signatures for the mailing group messages, customising the online subscription form — then all of those also work.

If a user wants to specifically delete mass emails in the Moderation queue, then they will need to wait till later this week for that to function as intended. The individual email deletion in the Moderation queue works, so this does not render the plugin unusable in any way. We are also changing the way pagination works by removing Ajax loading, so that very large lists can use the search functionality more smoothly.

The issue you are now having about not receiving moderation alert emails relates to the same problem as when group mails were not being sent from your server. This is specific to your server. If you had not barred us access, we could be working on resolving that also for you right now.

If you would like to allow us access to your server again, we can continue cooperating with you to improve the functionality of the plugin on your server, and also the general plugin features. Otherwise, you are welcome to wait till the next plugin version is released and you can install that yourself and work out the specific server settings you need to get it to work.

    Hi Flack.Maguire,

Thanks for your message about the WP Mailing Group plugin. It has certainly been a ride to get it this far, and we continue to push forward with improvements and as much versatility as possible to get it working on many different server setups.

We can’t offer direct support for the free plugin version, or we would run out of hours in the day to do any further development. I hope you can understand this, since we have to try and focus our time while also managing to pay our bills. Our users’ server setups can be indirectly varied (yours is a case in point), so working through so many different individual setups for free would not leave us time to keep our business going.

HOWEVER, we are talking about developing in-built logging functionality for the plugin at the moment, which might be really useful in solving complex cases like this one.

I was wondering, in your experience, what steps / cases would you find useful to have in the logs? We want the functionality to meet the users’ needs as closely as possible, so your input on this would certainly be welcome!

If you would like to sign up for the Premium plugin, then you can send me your server login details directly, and we will look into the Google / SendGrid settings for you to discover what the issue is.

    Best wishes,
    //Marcus.

    Hi Ed,

    Thanks for your feedback!
We are going to be addressing the bugs you identified in the next release of the plugin, which is due out soon. Number 2 is a feature though, not a bug: the sender gets a copy of the message so that they know the group has received it.

    Best wishes,
    //Marcus.

    Hi there!

    Thanks for your feedback.

For your point 2) we have already implemented this Reply-To functionality in the Premium version of the plugin already, and it will follow in the Free plugin’s next release version, which is due out this coming week (commencing July 6th).

For point 1), could you try the following shortcode, to see if that makes a difference?
    [mailing_group_form visibility=’Public’]

It should show all available active Public groups with the basic shortcode you used, so it will be useful for us to know how you get on with the more specific shortcode.

    Thank you again!
    Marcus.

OK – and if you could let me know what language you were writing the messages in, even if you don’t try the plugin again, that would be really helpful, so if we can find out if it relates to certain HTML characters that confuse the line breaking…

    Thanks!
