We do indeed just provide the plugin for free since we originally thought it would be helpful to the community that has provided us WordPress for free. Thankfully, it does seem it has been helpful to many people. I hope you will consider updating your review when we update the plugin for PHP7 support, which we will plan to do as soon as we have some spare time to do so (within the coming days hopefully).

Thank you for your patience as we try to determine the cause, Without being able to duplicate the issue, it has been slow going. But I was able to get EBD to work on a site that had previously been having trouble. I created a new contact form, default and free of customization, and used it in an EBD test page. The download worked as expected. For those still having difficulty, if they could use a default Contact Form and report if they are still having issues.

In reply to: Email before downloadAnd to further clarify, Even though you are using EBD to display the link inline, Contact Form 7 Still needs to send an email, which is most likely why you are getting this error message.

It looks like your wordpress instance is not able to send emails. I would recommend downloading “WP-Mail-SMTP” or something similar to test sending emails and correctly configure them.

I would make sure that Contact Form 7 works on its own. WordPress might be having trouble with sending emails. If Contact Form 7 works on its own, can you provide us with a test page with your shortcodes so we can see what is not working?

That is a good catch dtynan. If there is anyone who is having problems with out that plugin, please post a test page and some information about your set up.
There has also been a WordPress Release of 4.4.1 today (Jan 6), so if anyone can update and let us know if the problem persists after that as well.

After some testing, EBD has worked with installations of WordPress 4.4. We were unable to duplicate the errors described. If those who are having issues can confirm that both Contact Form 7 and Download Monitor are working on their own, and provide us with a test page then we can take a look.
We might also be looking for a common plugin or theme that those with difficulties are using.

Thank you for your interest in using our plugin. Can you give me more details about your issue? What is the shortcode you are using? If you want to have multiple downloads, you will have to include the <ebd /> tag in Contact Form 7.
