Thank you very much; I’m one very happy and relieved WP user, I can tell you.

Just a note of interest. The only other thing that I did, prior to my NVDA settings changes, was to update Firefox to the latest version. When it updated, however, I didn’t manually refresh the screen, so thought that hadn’t resolved the WP issues. Whether or not that was partially the culprit, guess I’ll never know. 🙂 It’s amazing how all the various pieces of software, etc, have to play cooperatively together and how one little check box or setting can screw something up.

    Thanks again!

    Well, this is interesting.

I just went back to my admin dashboard and all is working absolutely beautifully. I have no clue what resolved the issue. I’ve made some changes in my NVDA settings, but that’s all. As of 30 minutes ago it wasn’t working prior to those settings changes, now it’s perfect.

Sorry to freak everyone out; how embarrassing! 🙂 All appears wonderful now! Very odd!

My sincere thanks for everyone stepping in; I don’t know what happened, but I’m very relieved that all appears to be smooth sailing once again!

    Warm Wishes,
    Kim

Thanks to everyone for your responses; much appreciated.

    To clarify:

I have been using both the latest nightly build of the NVDA screen reader, and also the System Access screen reader (latest update) for testing purposes.

Using a Toshiba Satellite P755 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.

My theme is the Genesis Serenity child theme. Latest versions of both Genesis and Serenity child theme.

Have tested on Firefox 26 and IE 11.

I think I’ll disable all plugins next and see what, if anything, changes. Will report back.

    Thanks again,
    Kim

Second update. Based on where the menu link was located in relation to other links on my admin screen utilizing IE, I was able to find the link in Firefox. This is helpful, but still doesn’t totally resolve the problem. As mentioned previously, there are items, like my WP SlimStat plugin info, that I can’t find at all now, in addition to info regarding other plugins. I can find the options to configure said plugins where one would expect to find them (under the Plugins submenu), but, for instance, not my stats info for my WP SlimStat plugin. I’m much better off than I was, but still rather baffled at how to rediscover my missing info.

    Thanks for reading.

Quick update. Have managed to activate this “Menu” link using f6, then tabbing back into my page from the address bar. Not exactly convenient, but a workaround. From here I can access most features, although still can’t find my WP slimStat stats for the life of me. Just wanted to share…

@ Esmi: My profuse apologies for taking so long to respond to your note. Yes, I whole-heartedly think that something similar to the accessibility options found in Appearance – Widgets section for reordering menus would work very well. Overall, I’m really quite happy with the accessibility to be found with WordPress as a CMS, so if this could be rectified, that would be exceedingly useful.

Thanks so much for your input!

@andrew: Yes, sorry if I was unclear. Rev. Voodoo is correct in that I’m asking about the inbuilt appearance, menus functions. I don’t believe this is theme specific, but can double-check on another site, just to be certain.

@rev. Voodoo Re: your suggestion of a custom menu. I think I’d run into the exact same problem there with the drag and drop.

Ultimately, this re-ordering of menu pages is a task I could let my VA take on, but as I migrated to WordPress because of the ease of access and the ability to accomplish admin functions with minimal sighted assistance, that’s a rather annoying thought.

I spoke with the only other blind webmaster I know utilizing WordPress, and he concurs with me that this functionality (re-ordering menu items without the use of drag and drop) was possible in a previous build.

Thanks so much for the responses thus far… I very much appreciate them.
