Yes, the “Order by” dropdown list is activated because of the incorrect sorting in the galleries.
I try exactly the same procedure as shown by you in the video, but ist doesn’t works:

Edit: If i insert a gallery in a page or post, all works fine.

Thank you Chriz69, I just tried this and it’s not worked. I think i’m just going to have to remove NextGen from my site and start again. Very frustrating.
Try the “Next Cellent Gallery”: (based on the latest 1.9.xx Version of Next gen gallery from Alex Rabe)

It works fine an all Images from Next Gen switch easily to Next Cellent

Version 1.10.9 (.zip package from your timely homepage) works fine with WP 3.8 🙂
