Resolved! After reverting back to 2.2 and doing incremental upgrades I ran into a multitude of problems. I ended up installing a brand new 2.6 in another directory. Then using an xml backup I imported posts, comments, categories, etc… Of course, I ran into the file limit size with the xml import so I had to chop it up into smaller files. That worked, leaving on a few easily fixed corrupted files (just had to reinsert some data here and there).

The images as expected were my new problem. But I found a plugin “Add From Server” that took care of that. So I’ve got all my images back too!

For anyone else having similar problems, I hope this thread helps in some way. My conclusion is a combo of things that caused the problems. My original install was via Fantastico and I never upgraded which I should have. Now my install is Fantastico free and I feel that is best. Simply because if you’ve installed via Fantastico, you’re stuck until they load the latest version of WorPress, sometimes week and weeks later. It’s true what I’ve read elsewhere, upgrading from Fantastico via a manual upgrade can cause problems.

    I’m marking this one resolved.

hmmm… Have you tried the Permalinks Migration plugin by Dean?

It works for me. You set the old permalink structure in the plugin configuration. Then set the new structure in WordPress permalink configuration.

I’m not sure it works for 2.3 as I still use 2.2 (afraid to upgrade, lol) But I see people are still downloading the plugin. Anyway, something to look into.
