Leac, no, I am not able to go to that address. Internet Explorer “cannot display the web page” and Firefox reports “Server Not Found”.
Perhaps the problem is with my ISP if the site is still running. In that case, do you have a chance to test beta 4 to see if it resolves the issue for you?

The other possibility is that whatever issue blocks me from visiting the site is also affecting Google, which would make the plugin ineffective as well.
Thanks,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] [Plugin: Google Doc Embedder] Mask URLI know the problem with the empty PDF and will fix that in the next build (a little overzealous removing debug code, oops) but I can’t reproduce the 400 error anymore in beta 3, even for filenames containing spaces. Could you send me a URL of a document causing the problem using the support form from your plugin list? Maybe there’s another type of filename I’m not testing for. That would be helpful.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] [Plugin: Google Doc Embedder] Mask URLPlease try again with beta 3. I believe the force download option is fixed.
The value of
nofollowis extremely debatable (see this) but you’re right, if you’re masking the URL then you probably want to reduce as much search engine traffic on it as possible. So I have added that as well, only to the Mask URL option. Thanks for reporting these issues. Let me know if they are all resolved yet or not.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] [Plugin: Google Doc Embedder] Mask URLIf you had a chance to test beta 2 of 2.4.5, does it fix this issue for you?
CreativeWP,
Those are javascript errors in Google’s JS files. If you could provide a link (here or privately use the Support link next to Google Doc Embedder in your plugin list) I can try to help more specifically. But in short, you can switch to the Standard Viewer in GDE Settings and this error may go away. I’ve not seen it before but it may be IE7 specific? IE7 makes puppies cry… π

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] [Plugin: Google Doc Embedder] Mask URLmrhaanraadtsm,
I have been able to reproduce this error when using filenames that contain spaces. Can you confirm this?
Filenames with spaces is related to the bug I’m trying to solve in 2.4.5. I wish people wouldn’t use them, because they are nonstandard, but I realize they aren’t going away so I will continue to try to make them work. Try again with 2.4.5 beta 2 if you don’t mind…
If your filename does NOT contain a space then let me know as there may be another issue I’m missing.
Thanks,
Kevin
mlautens,
I’ve been looking into this and while I agree that the 2.4.4 upgrade caused the problem (since that’s when it broke) I’m having trouble reproducing the issue with my own documents, or even with your own using my site. I would really benefit from you submitting a support request via the support link in your plugin list that will allow me to reproduce the situation as closely as possible (WP version, exact shortcode you’re using, your current settings). Would you be willing to help me with this?
Kevin
I get a DNS error that the server “www.nanochannels.eu” can’t be found. So that’s about as far as I can go.
Probably not the issue, but you don’t want to use your Google Apps URL – I’m assuming that’s only showing because you copied the URL of the failure page and you’re logged in to your Google Apps account.
I did find additional fixes so please disregard the above build and download the official 2.4.4 release to fix this issue. Thanks again for your bug report.
I have a fix posted for you to try out if you wish. I’ll do some more testing and hopefully release an update tomorrow or Wednesday.

I did have to do some additional reorganization to deal with spaced filenames, and all the other bug fixes intended for 2.5 have been rolled back for this bug fix release.
If you get a chance to try it, please let me know how it fares.
Thanks

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] [Plugin: Google Doc Embedder] Stopped working…This code is working correctly for me.
http://www.davistribe.org/gde/test/
I would expect the issue is local, perhaps in your browser cache (clear it or try another browser). When you say “nothing displays any longer” what do you mean? Is there an error, a blank document, or literally nothing at all is showing up? Need more info to help with that, but I can say that the shortcode you provided is embedding fine and viewable normally for me in IE9, Firefox, and Chrome as of now.
Kevin
@gwhitney3 – beredim is correct; while you may run GDE on a private instance of WordPress, the embedded document itself must be somewhere publicly accessible (see Notes, #2). Also mentioned in the FAQ here on wordpress.org.
@yuriconalc – I’m sorry for your frustration; most certainly the issue is the size of your PDF as you stated. Please see the same page (Notes, #3). You can use Acrobat to reduce the PDF file size, or perhaps optimize the PDF at its source document (for example, compress the images in Word).
Hope this helps.
beredim,
I’m sorry for my delay in responding. I am usually notified of threads here via RSS but wordpress.org seems unreliable at delivering these at times. π
I looked over your report (thanks for your research) and it appears I may be properly encoding the filename (note the line 147) but not the entire URL. I haven’t tested it yet but your suggested fix may break files that contain spaces in their names — however it’s certain that a similar fix can be offered (if in fact this one isn’t perfect already). Thanks for catching this error and I will be sure to repair it in the next version after further testing.
Kevin
This may be intended as a “review,” but if you would like support for this issue you’ll need to provide information. Obviously the plugin hasn’t changed in the last couple of weeks, so something else is going wrong there.
Use the support link in your plugin list to better explain the problem you’re having and on what document in what environment, if you want help with this. Or you can post more details here if you wish. At a minimum:
- URL of the page showing the error (or not showing the document)
- shortcode you’re using in the editor
- which viewer you’re using (standard, enhanced)
The support link automates most of this for you.
