    @fifthhouse — I am experiencing the same issue now – broken image appears when I upload any type of image file. Very frustrating because it was totally out of the blue.

    Tried numerous solutions but nothing has worked.

    Did you ever resolve this issue? If so, how?

    @kristarella – thanks for the feedback and proposed resolution, but I’ve tried everything you mentioned and the image upload is still not working properly. I’ve remove Super Cache (via FTP), deactivated all plug-ins, cleared cache, tried alternative browsers. Also of note, the other 4 sites I manage with WordPress do not have this issue at all (all on the same hosting service – Network Solutions).

    Any other ideas?

    @nallejacobsson — I will take a look at the details of the other post, but from what I can see this will require me to change WP delivered code, which I would like to avoid. If this is a WP issue, then there should be a patch delivered.

    @samboll

    I’ve tried everything you mentioned above – modified permissions on wp-content and wp-content/uploads folders, tried to upload an image – still broken. Tried changing it back, upload an image – still broken.

    Posted some further explanation and pictures on one of my blog sites (not the blog having an issue).

    Can you your or anyone else advise on additional options or ideas for troubleshooting the problem?

    @eylons36 – I too would love to understand the root cause for this problem instead of trying to fish for work-arounds or solutions, not knowing if this will happen again due to a plugin or some other element.

    This problem popped up for me yesterday and have spent a while trying to investigate a solution.

    I’ve tried changing the permission settings on both the wp-content and wp-content/uploads directories and that has not resolved the problem. I still get a broken image when attempting to upload any type of image to a posting.

    Anyone have any idea with this one? Anyone at WP can help? Seems to be unresolved over at http://wordpress.org/support/topic/355923?replies=20 as well.

    I’ve added pictures and further explanation on one of my blogs: http://townlinetech.com/support/wordpress-2-9-2-image-upload-issue-broken-images/

    It appears that a number of supplemental issues were resolved through this thread but not the original question.

    I am having the image upload issue now as well using 2.9.2 – I only noticed this yesterday after I installing WP Super Cache. I of course can’t uninstall the plugin now due to some other error.

    Has the root cause of this problem been established and published? It seems that a number of possible resolutions or work arounds are out there, but is there any way to avoid this problem if I reinstall WP?

    Please advise.
