In reply to: [Gutenberg] Not perfect yet definitely the future of editingThanks so much for your review, really appreciate it.
I agree, there are many rough edges, but we’re working as hard as we can on smoothing them out and improving Gutenberg. We also hope it will make it in to WP Core!

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Makes things difficultBummer to hear that you had a bad experience. We are aware of many many rough edges that we are working very hard to polish, but we’d still love any specific feedback you might have. We’re far from done yet, and I hope you’ll try the plugin again in a later version.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Great step forwardThank you so much for your review. The whole team appreciates that you are able to share our vision for where things can go in the future.
There’s lots of work to be done still. But full speed ahead!

Really appreciate your thorough and thoughtful review. Some great ideas here, some are already tracked, others we’d definitely love your input directly in Github: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/ π
> As a theme developer, PLEASE add ample CSS classes for me to style the content blocks with. I need to easily be able to distinguish between the various image sizes and block quotes VS pull quotes. That goes for the front-end and the back-end.
We are definitely doing that, 0.7 should have the ability to let you add additional CSS classes to blocks in the advanced interface (click the cog next to blocks).
As you can see, lots of work still to be done, but we are blazing forwards hoping that we can be ready for everyone as soon as possible. Your review makes the whole team happy.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Fantastic Plugin for Front end EditingThank you for your review!
It’s definitely part of the vision to make your editing experience more 1:1 with what the theme looks like. See our vision document for some of the details: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/blob/master/docs/design.md
The plugin isn’t quite ready, though, and frontend editing isn’t in Gutenberg currently: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/blob/master/docs/faq.md

In reply to: [Gutenberg] A Visit from St. GutenbergAs much as I’m sorry you had a bad experience testing this plugin, and would invite you to give specific feedback and try it again in a later version, I will also admit, this is one of the better one-star reviews.
It’s so very hard to move mountains. And in this case, we’re moving mountains. At some point, you have to grab a shovel and start. Moving a mountain with a shovel takes a while. In four months we’ve moved a fair bit, but evidently there’s a lot more still to move. One stars are hard because you put yourself out there, all your work laid bare, and it can feel like the whole internet is against you. Do you spend time responding that “No, Gutenberg won’t get merged into core unless it’s ready” or “there are many ways to roll Gutenberg out, including letting you opt in to it” or even direct towards our FAQ or design docs (https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/blob/master/docs/faq.md and
https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/blob/master/docs/design.md) which answers some of the more common concerns? Or do you spend that time fixing the 440 open issues, hoping that we’ll be ready in time?I love WordPress, I’ve loved it since version 1.2, and I just want to give back to it after all these years. It’s hard, hard work, and this particular one star really gave me a chuckle on a dark day.
That said, I’d really love for you to try 0.8 coming out this week, and I’d appreciate specific action items β prose form or otherwise β for how we can improve in 0.9.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] This is a new era for WordPressHi Philipp,
Thanks so much for this review. The whole team appreciates it. It’s clear you see what we are trying to do with the vision here.
We are far from done yet, and we hope to be ready for WordPress as soon as we can. But it’s not done until it’s done. Your review helps us keep the steam up!

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Like the concept, but should not replace tinyMCEThanks so much for your thoughtful review. I’m glad you’re able to see the vision for what we’re trying to do here (see also our FAQ, and our design/vision document at https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/blob/master/docs/faq.md and https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/blob/master/docs/design.md).
We’re not replacing TinyMCE, TinyMCE still powers almost every text field. You can also insert the “Classic Text” block, to get an editing experience that’s virtually the same as to the current editing field.
On a meta note, though, we are aware of how widely used WordPress is, and how customized it is by people. We don’t want to break any of that. We want to offer a path forward to a better interface in the future. But in the mean time, there are many options we can explore for how to roll this out, including letting you opt in to Gutenberg.
Many good ideas here, some of them tracked already, others not. Feel free to also give your input on our Github, https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues

In reply to: [Gutenberg] No usage curveGutenberg won’t reach WordPress until it’s ready.
We _hope_ that it will be ready for 5.0. But this is not a done deal.
Right now we have multiple pull requests open exploring ways to reduce cognitive load. Some are quite exciting to me.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Best editor I’ve ever used….Really dang thrilled to hear this. Thanks so much, the whole team appreciates it.
On copy/pasting, right now we’re improving the basic copy paste flow. See https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/2303 for some improvements we’d like to make soon. In addition to this, we are in the process of making individual scripts to clean up and handle content from Word, Google Docs and others. See also https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/1442
Regarding columns, this is still an area that will receive _muuuch_ more love in the future. In the mean time, stay tuned for 0.8, there might be a little surprise in it for you: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/2117
