I managed to find the solution through another online video specifically for setting up wordpress for hosting company ‘fasthosts’ http://vimeo.com/5993338, if anyone has the same issues just follow this video to the letter – I had not included my server IP address on the wp-config.php page.
All done! and working! thanks for your help guys!

I hope someone can help me, I have a similar problem. I am completely new to wordpress and have not been able to set it up properly. I have downloaded wordpress 3.1.1 to my computuer, I added a database with my hosting company ‘fasthosts’ for my domain and then uploaded the files using ftp client filezilla. I set up a sub directory demo so it didnt interfere with my site so I could have a play with wordpress but all I can see is a blank white page.

I am a complete novice to this and have basically followed youtube videos to help me get this far http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nse3Gdtvs4, does anyone know if I have made a basic error? Thanks again for anyones help!
