Yes I installed in root folder and also yes I have another index file. deleting that seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks so much for your assistance Marie-Aude

OK i have jut found the following advice from my hosting provider. Maybe a dumb question but where do I perform this task and which file do I overwrite from and to?
“Your home page must be named index.html which will overwrite the page holder (this is the first page the server looks for when a request is made for your website)”

Thanks, but I haven’t even been able to try and login to wordpress admin as I can’t complete the ftp to upload. my problem is successfully complelting the ftp step of installation

Some more info on above. I am using Parallels Pro Control panel (ensim), mysql 5.0.77, mac osx and latest version of wordpress
