I checked your site and you have 100 on Google PageSpeed Insights. That is amazing! Smush is not limited by theme container size so it will work on any image under 1mb. That said, Smush optimizes content but does not resize images. You will need to manually scale images to fit the theme container before uploading the images. That goes for any image optimization plugin.

Sorry for the confusion @torrielynn. This is what we were trying to explain. The image you have embedded, in its natural state, is not scaled for the themes container. You can see that here:
The image you uploaded is 728×582. The container is 340×272.
Crop the image to the container size before uploading the image.
If you are on a retina screen you will probably want to upload and serve a 2x image as well. This can be done using the HTML scrset attribute.
