Hi @peterpolow,
… and me again too 🙂 Thank you for splitting your feedback into separate topics. It may mean a few extra greetings, but it keeps the discussion structured and should help future readers as well.
Yes, video download is possible. I’ve already tested it by downloading several videos, and this will be available in version 2.0.5 later today.
Kind regards,
JanHi Peter,
Many thanks for the detailed feedback, and no worries at all about being demanding, it really helps improve the plugin.
It’s actually very valuable to have such focused, detail-oriented users. Based on your requests, the plugin is now quite different from its v1 generation.
That said, this request was less demanding than some of the previous ones 😉
I managed to complete it in a few hours (not a week, as with features like video support).
These changes will be available in version 2.0.5 later today.
I introduced not just 2, but 9 new sibling parameters, all following the pattern fullscreen-….
In your specific case:
- show-download-button = controls the inline view (gallery/slider/carousel)
- fullscreen-show-download-button = controls the fullscreen view (inherits from show-download-button if omitted)
So if you want download hidden inline but visible in fullscreen, use:
show-download-button=”false” fullscreen-show-download-button=”true”
Also, in gallery mode on desktop, link/download thumbnail buttons now follow the same hover behavior as the fullscreen toggle button (show on tile hover/focus).
Thanks again for pushing this forward.
Best,
JanHi @toonwolf ,
Great to hear that! I just published 2.0.4 with number of bugfixes and one larger new feature. If anything feel free to open a new thread.
Kind regards
JanHi @peterpolow ,
To make it more manageable, I will now mark this thread as resolved. Feel free to open a new topic 🙂
Cheers
JanHi @peterpolow ,
I just published 2.0.4.
Compliments, your findings were all correct and well described. I will only hope my fixes will be of a decent quality. All-in-all the plugin grows to something I did not imagine at the beginning where I saw it only in the ‘swiper’ experience context.
I also added a new feature – thumbnails mosaic strip. In detail:
Download button in gallery mode
Fixed. show-download-button="true" now works correctly in gallery mode.
Separate fullscreen background color
Added fullscreen-background-color (default: black), so inline and fullscreen backgrounds can be controlled separately.
fullscreen-slideshow behavior
Fixed logic. Slideshow options now use disabled, manual, and auto (instead of true/false).
For your case: use fullscreen-slideshow="disabled".
Single-click fullscreen on video slides
Fixed. fullscreen-toggle="click" now works on videos too.
Also added new video samples for button-only, click, and double-click fullscreen modes.
iPhone fullscreen video playback
I could not reproduce the exact playback failure, but I fixed several iPhone fullscreen edge cases and improved pseudo-fullscreen handling.
Fullscreen arrows on mobile
Reworked iPhone fullscreen navigation logic. Android and iPad were already fine.
Please retest on iPhone.
Return to last viewed position after fullscreen
Implemented. Closing fullscreen now returns near the previously viewed location instead of jumping to the top. Also once again thank you for the coffee 🙂
Best regards
JanHello @toonwolf ,
I just published v2.0.3. You will find reply to your questions on its Settings page > Tools > Album Cache.
You will also find new parameter called “cache-refresh“. Just use cache-refresh=”1” to refresh every hour.
Please let me know but I believe it will work reliably.
Cheers
JanHi @peterpolow,
I shortly checked your test page and the videos seem to play nicely there. What were your impressions? Anything can be further improved?
Kind regards
JanThanks a lot, @toonwolf! It’s a pleasure to receive such valuable feedback – from the photo resolution issues to the missing (and very useful) Clear Cache button. I’ll keep listening… 🙂
Hi @toonwolf ,
Very good point! I just pushed 2.0.2 where you will find “Clear Cache” button under the Playground section.
Hope that helps,
JanI just pushed 2.0.1. It should be fixed there 🙂
Hi Ulf,
I can confirm it’s a bug on my side. There’s a title cleanup function that tries to strip auto-generated noise (camera models, dates Google sometimes appends), but it’s way too aggressive and ends up removing parts of intentionally named albums like yours.
I’ll fix this in the next update and get back to you here. Thanks for catching it!
Jan
Hi Ulf,
Thank you for the kind words and for the great suggestion!
I actually spent a good hour digging into this. Unfortunately, Google doesn’t include photo descriptions in the shared album data that the plugin can access. They load them separately, only for signed-in users. I also looked into the Google Photos API route, but Google severely restricted it in March 2025, the third-party apps can no longer read shared albums or library content through the API at all.
So sadly, this one isn’t possible with any approach available today. If Google ever opens things up again, I’ll definitely revisit it.
Here I can see you most probably found a workaround by adding the description manually. That is the only way possible.
Being on your site here I noticed this album renders wrongly on your site. I tested its URL on my test site shotcode and there it correctly shows the 2 items it currently has. Maybe it is some work in progress on your side?Jan
Hi @toonwolf ,
I’ve just published version 2.0.0 of the plugin.
It turned out to be a major upgrade, and I had to introduce some breaking changes, so please take a look at my migration post here.
You will find a new parameters called source-width, source-height, fullscreen-source-width, fullscreen-source-height.If you scroll down the Settings and Onbording page you will find this new section: High-Resolution Inline Photos. It should clearly demonstrate the difference.
My apologies for the broken backward compatibility but I hope the new features were worth it!
I will try to react promptly on your feedback.
Kind regards

In reply to: [Shared Albums for Google Photos (by JanZeman)] Code to disable navigation?Hi @toonwolf ,
I’m really happy to hear that my plugin is being used in Norway – greetings from Denmark! I also have to admit that I’m happy it’s being used for tennis too – one of my favorite sports. 🙂
I’ve just published version 2.0.0 of the plugin.
It turned out to be a major upgrade, and I had to introduce some breaking changes, so please take a look at my migration post here.
I understand that you already solved your problem with CSS, but I added a new shortcode parameter anyway. Maybe you’ll find it useful.
Kind regards
JanHi @peterpolow ,
Finally there! Please try to update to v2.0.0.
It turned out to be a major upgrade where I had to introduce some breaking changes. Please read my about migration post here.I will hope the new 2.0.0 version will be sufficient for your website.
I have tried to react on as many of your findings as possible but at the end the video support took most of my attention. So please start your new testing round with the mindset that further improvements are possible.
I will await your feedback with a lot of anticipations.
Best regards,
Jan
