I set custom permalink then “sync htaccess” and problem is resolved

I have asked them if mod-rewrite is running on server. My host replied back with this
“Yes, it’s available, however you need to click the “sync htaccess” button in the control panel, under website settings to be able to use it.”
can I do anything on htaccess to sort it out?
