Well, that’s not quite right, but it’s close. It looks like this:

I’m using Apple’s Mail, so it’s likely not a problem there.
I don’t know that it makes sense to change update-core.php to write permissions.
FWIW, my /wp-content folder is writeable and I manually installed 3.7.1, and this message still won’t go away. I don’t have a .maintenance file, and I can’t figure out how to dismiss this error.
Pretty annoying to see this “error message” even with no real errors.
FWIW, this appears to have been documented and fixed for version 2.1. I guess us “lowly” 2.0 users will have to wait for the fix.
