In reply to: Page and plugin links missingThanks again for the help from both of you.
I added a new administrator through phpMyAdmin. If anyone else has this problem and wants to try this fix, you can get good instructions by searching for “How to add an administrator to your WordPress by using phpMyAdmin”

In reply to: Page and plugin links missingJust an additional item.
The dashboard has the message “WordPress 5.6 is available! Please notify the site administrator.” Is this what a subscriber would see rather then an admin?

In reply to: Page and plugin links missingThank you Joy and Yobani,
I have the following links in my dashboard:
Dashboard
Jetpack
Posts
Media
Comments
Profile
Tools
TemplatesIs this what a subscriber rather than an administrator would see? Joy, you wrote “If you can, create a new admin user” and I can’t find a place that I can do that. Should I have another link on this page which would normally allow me to do that?

In reply to: Admin home page problemThanks Christine
That is the problem, the screen options is not at the top. There is the black band at the top which usually has things like “dashboard”, “Screen options” and “help” written just underneath but now it seems the top portion is not there. the black band covers half of the word “dashboard” and the screen option and help items can’t be seen or accessed. It is very bizarre and frustrating.

I reviewed this post
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/362221?replies=7
and found all my php files had this in the first line. I stripped it from all the files and have most of the functionality back. Am currently finding my page/post editor doesn’t work in visual, even after re-loading Tinymce. I will update if I find a soltion.
Of course, I would be happy for any suggestions.
Cheers

In reply to: admin page not allowing me Visual editingI had the same problem after making some changes.
The solution I had was to delete the following folders
wp-admin and wp-includes
and upload fresh folders from the latest version. It worked fine after that.
I found this from these support forums but I’m sorry I didn’t keep the link
