    Thanks for your interest. I am very much a neophyte at this game. I am almost sure I never received a message telling me of the critical failure. I went to my dashboard but was unable to find anywhere that had an error log. Where should I look for it?

    As I said, you cannot see the black pictures as I have deleted them all from my latest post which is where they occurred – for the first time. I am using a plug-in called “Resize Image after upload” which has worked well previously and for all the photos you can see.

    I do not know what PHP version I am using – where do I find it?

    How do I provide an original photo? As you have probably gathered, I am not at all an expert user.

    Thanks. I deleted the black pictures as they were of no use. Interestingly, if I tried uploading the pictures that were importing as black as .gif files rather than .jpg, the upload is blank (white). Nothing on the site health page.

    I tried using “Save for Web” (which I’ve never had to do before ) as both a .jpg and a .gif . I both cases it appears to load but is now totally white rather than the black I was getting before

    Thanks again for your help. I have a new problem in uploading photos to a gallery in a post. Most images are working as normal with thumbnails appearing as requested. However, when I try to upload a picture which has been photoshopped (and saved as .jpg) the thumbnail is black. I am sure this didn’t use to happen. Any ideas?

    Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I was able to disable all my plugins and discovered that Jetpack was the culprit. What can I do to get Jetpack to work or, alternatively,, find a replacement plugin that does much the same?

    The gallery editor “pencil” appears with the gallery box in my post, not at the top of the page and it is what I have always used to edit the gallery. Until the update to 5.0, I could rearrange sequence by dragging and dropping on my iPad. Now, nothing will move position. I can still add and and delete pictures, but sorting seems to be impossible although it says at the top of the page to drag and drop to sort. Could this be an iPad problem? As I’m on the road it is the only way I can access the internet.
