There has been plenty of discussion on the public developer mailing lists. Every release of WP generates polar reactions, to be honest 2.5 hasn’t really had any more than we have in the past. We collate the feedback and will be trying a few different approaches to things like categories that people seem to be having the most trouble with.

In reply to: WP 2.5 Write Panel UsabilityJust a quick note to say that with a couple of tweaks, Judy’s hack works really well with the Fluency admin theme and makes the whole thing so much better, I’ve actually briefly stopped hating the 2.5 upgrade!

I disagree with your other points. The fact that people are still coming here posting the same constructive criticisms about 2.5 clearly shows there is a need for (a) an easy way for users to to offer feedback and (b) once they are here, direct them to the channels you previously identified (assuming what you said about this forum not being read by developers is true.)
Whatever way you look at it, I think it’s fair to say that the current feedback channels for average users simply don’t work. This whole situation proves it, and your desire to get rid of this forums is further proof — and an astonishing thing to hear from a moderator!

I would also be very grateful if you could let us know why the other long thread was closed: there appears to be no reason attached to the thread explaining why?

I think we need to face the fact that WP 2.5 is now a bit of a turkey for power users. Personally, I’m looking at Symphony now as it’s lean and fast, and it gives me an excuse to finally learn XSLT which I’ve been putting off for some time. It won’t be right for most people and you need a web-host that supports XSLT, but it looks promising. That and Textpattern. For larger sites, many people have recommended Expression Engine which I’m looking into and it’s great — though does require a licence for commercial use.
