Thank you for the clarification, Aysa.
I’m sorry to hear that this had to be done. While my site is just a small private thing and not a crucial professional one, I agree with @detoris: the permanent titles of the mobile version, in a way, “ruin” the appearance of the mobile aesthetic by overpowering the thumbnails. Further, the hovering and “discovering” effect by itself also added a certain flair to the behavior of the whole home page that is now lost…
In my, admittedly limited, testing with iPhones and Android devices I never did find any problems with touchscreens with the earlier version (never had a chance to try a pad screen though). Did you folks actually had complaints about that?
Might there be a way to make this an option, as suggested by @detoris? And, finally, is there a way to reinstall an earlier version, short of getting it from my backups?
Again, many thanks for your prompt reply. I do love the Gallery!
Best,
Fritz.
THANK you; it worked — That was sooo helpful.
Best,
Fritz.
Hi again,
sorry about the delay and thanks for answering. My apologies also: I did delete the page that I was having trouble with; no wonder you couldn’t open it. It’s back up again now. The “home” page has the WP Gallery and the “testing… ” page has the Photo Gallery version. The photos are not the same in both galleries, but they are 150×150 px thumbnails.
Meanwhile, I have managed to get at least 3 columns to show with Photo Gallery on my phone screen vs. 5 “mini” thumbnails on the WP gallery… this is much better than the single column I had before and actually acceptable. However, if there were to be a way to duplicate the 5 column WP Gallery effect (on small screens) or even a 4 column one, that would be even better. I would love to hear your suggestions.
Many thanks.
Fritz.
Thank you so much for the prompt reply!
I did have the Resizable option activated in my settings of Photo Gallery. And just now “reset” and saved everything one more time, just in case. Unfortunately, that did not change things for small screens — it continues to show 2 columns on my small screen and 5 on the laptop. The WP gallery does show 5 columns on either screen size, reducing the thumbnails as needed on the small screen. The Photo gallery doesn’t seem to reduce them at all on the small screen but drops down to 2 columns instead.
I would love to use the Photo gallery because it allows both showing the title of the photo on hover and redirection to an URL on clicking.
Anything else I could try?
Thanks,
Fritz.
