Quoting you
The setup was confusing and didn’t work at first
Could you please share in details, in which step it was confusing? Your feedback will help us improve the plugin.
Thank you.
@foscoe Thank you very much for your support.
@liammonroe You know that our plugin did not cause the issue. Your server was not serving simple Let’s Encrypt challenge files. WordPress’s .htaccess rules (that tell the server to serve files) were not working on your server.
Moreover, we were not given sufficient time. When we were still trying to fix your issue (and informed you that), you suddenly opted for another solution.
As we have in our refund policy (https://freessl.tech/refund-policy), we issue a refund if our plugin causes any issues and we cannot resolve that issue after giving enough time. On the payment page, we display links to our Refund Policy, EULA, & Terms of Service. You agreed with it, and then you bought the plugin.
However, we issued you a full refund 40 minutes ago. Please consider updating your rating and review.
@locko69 This plugin is still free, but auto-installs free SSL certificates for the premium version. This is clearly mentioned in the plugin description. We have written FREE PLUGIN FEATURES vs PREMIUM PLUGIN FEATURES transparently there.
We announced the pro version on November 3, 2020, and explained the difficulties of spending hundreds of hours developing the plugin and then spending time providing support without any monetary return. Since then for 1 year and 8 months, we notified our users with admin notice with a link to this blog post: https://freessl.tech/blog/auto-install-free-ssl-needs-your-help-to-survive/ . Please feel free to read the post.
As per the announcement, we offer our previous users (users before releasing the premium version, June 29, 2022) 6 months (since June 29, 2022) of the premium license, for unlimited websites, free of cost. So, if you are a previous user, you can still use the plugin at no cost till December 31, 2022.
The benefits of the Free version are that users still get
Let’s Encrypt™ SSL Certificate is FREE. But they provide it through their API. If you are not a programmer, you need to study and practice programming for years to be able to use the API of Let’s Encrypt™ to generate a single Free SSL Certificate for your WordPress website.
Here is where ‘Auto-Install Free SSL’ comes into play. With this WordPress plugin, you can generate the Let’s Encrypt™ Free SSL Certificate with ease! You don’t need to have programming or coding experience to set it up.
However, you need to spend some time using this tool to generate & install the SSL certificate and repeat this for every renewal (every 2-3 months). The premium version does this for you automatically and saves users’ time. And time is money for many people. Now it’s the users’ choice which version they use.
Regarding the pricing of SSL certificates, many popular web hosting companies charge $100 or more for 1 year SSL certificate. We know, users used to purchase products they found cheaper.
@spokesy WordPress support forum is intended for free plugin users only.
Please send an email to support AT freessl.tech from the email id with which you got the premium license. Don’t forget to mention your website address.
@digitalwiz Glad to know that you have resolved the issue. Thanks for the update.

In reply to: [Auto-Install Free SSL – Generate & Install Free SSL Certificates] bad@ops159 Hello, unfortunately, that doesn’t depend on us. That is the decision of the free certificate authority Let’s Encrypt™. This plugin just uses their API to generate free SSL certificates.
In fact, the lifetime of Let’s Encrypt™ SSL is 90 days and they recommend renewing it every 60 days. Please check this page to know Why ninety-day lifetimes for certificates: https://letsencrypt.org/2015/11/09/why-90-days.html
FYI, the premium version of this plugin erases the difficulties of manually renewing the SSL certificate every 60 days by renewing it AUTOMATICALLY. It’ll also install the renewed SSL certificate AUTOMATICALLY if you have cPanel or root access to the server.
Please check the installation tab for the documentation. The videos are made with subdomains. The process is exactly the same for domains too. We have made video tutorials for cPanel and Plesk, the most popular web hosting control panels. If your Namecheap hosting’s control panel is cPanel or Plesk, these will help you.
I found your comment written 10 months ago, “all of my websites are receiving the SSL except for one”. This clearly indicates that our plugin was working on your multiple websites correctly and saved a lot of your $. I am sorry to mention that you didn’t spend a single minute writing a favorable positive rating and review for that. That is your choice, of course. I have nothing to say about that. But now you have left a negative rating. This is very unfortunate and discouraging for free plugin developers.
Thanks for the update.
