In reply to: Stats counter counting my own visitsI’ve been using that plugin for a few months now (planning to replace StatPress with it) and don’t really know if it does or doesn’t count my visits. But, and I don’t mean this in a negative way, if your own visits skew your stats, then do you really have enough traffic for it to really matter? Just a thought…

In reply to: Need help with restoring blog from an “archive”Well, you need to figure that out…if you have the database, then you can recover…if not, then you are out of luck unless your host has a backup.
So, first step….see if you have the db. If so, post back.

In reply to: Extra line spacesA complete amateur way to do it, but what about putting something like a few lines of dots between your text and change the text color to white…if your post background color is white. Like this:

In reply to: Importing Users only after switching hosts. No, you can’t just copy/paste. You are only showing the usermeta table values above…if you follow the tip form MichaelH, then you need to also get the wp_user data as well. You could drop those two existing tables, edit your sql file to only leave those tables and then import it. Or, you could drop all the tables and import the complete sql file.

In reply to: Importing Users only after switching hosts. If you did a clean install, then you could just drop the tables from that install and import the sql file from your old backup…then you would have everything. If you changed the url, then you should edit the sql file doing a search/replace on the url.
Backup everything first….

In reply to: Do I have to re-install?I would delete the users in the db, then replace all WP code with a clean copy of the latest code. If you have custom themes, you should either replace them with clean code or look at them very close to make sure they are clean. Also, look at any other files on your site to ensure nothing has been added.
I don’t have an answer for you off the top of my head…that’s a bit beyond simply creating a template and is more into coding. Maybe someone else who is better with code than I can suggest something to help you get started.

In reply to: Looking for a new host. Any good suggestions.is there a good alternative to a dedicated server (obviously, VPS is not a good solution for high traffic either).
Not so…VPS is a very good solution for those who outgrow the typical shared server, but don’t need the full resources of a dedicated. I’ve had a dedicated server with Liquidweb for about 5 years now and have no complaints. Also, leased a VPS with them back in May of this year…that has been working fine as well.
The dedicated started out costing me around $5,500 per year (it was their top of the line server when I first leased it–4 gig of RAM, dual Operton 242s, and fast harddrives)…after three years, it’s down to around $3,800. The VPS is around $900 a year. It all depends on the amount of “horsepower” you need…don’t rule out VPS just because someone else had a bad experience.
