Stats counter counting my own visits

    I loaded the wordpress.com stats counter as a plug in. I’ve since found out that without a doubt that it is counting my own visits to my blog even though I am logged in as admin. I had my suspicions and tested it. I log in and then select “visit site” – when I return to the dashboard my stats counter immediately records a new visit. My test is also showing under the dashboard referrals. Say what you want my own visits are being recorded.

    I’ve been using that plugin for a few months now (planning to replace StatPress with it) and don’t really know if it does or doesn’t count my visits. But, and I don’t mean this in a negative way, if your own visits skew your stats, then do you really have enough traffic for it to really matter? Just a thought…

    Of course it matters. Some days I log in many times and view my site. I want to keep an accurate tally of visits and regardless of whether the numbers are high or low I’d at least expect the totals to be accurate. Surely if it’s not supposed to count my own visits then it shouldn’t. If you’ve noticed that your dashboard referral is high then do a few tests to make sure that your own vists are not been counted.

    Hmm I found this on the “faq” page of the plugin. Here; http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/stats/faq/

    “Does it count my own hits?

    It does not count the hits of logged in users.”

    Strange…

    Hmmm I dont understand why it counts your hits when you are logged into the admin panel…

    There is no settings you can make inside the admin panel to the plugin to avoid this?

    (I have not used this plugin)

    Thanks for input. When I used wordpress.com it definately didn’t count my own logged in visits, but the plug in on my new site does. I’ve tested it during quiet times when there is hardly any traffic. I log in then press visit site then return to the dashboard then voila the stats counter refreshes and logs a new visit. It is too much of a coincidence that during quiet times the number would increase only at those times when I’ve visited the site.

    I’ve used the .com plugin for both my old .com WordPress site and my more current .org WordPress sites.

    In my experience, I haven’t had my logged in visits count for me (otherwise I would have an extremely high visit count because of all the theme editing I do live) but when it has seemed like I’ve had my logged in visits count, it’s because I’ve had the same site open in another browser where I am not logged in.

    I don’t suppose you have multiple tabs or multiple browser windows opened with that site loaded?

    It’s a longshot I know and I’m not trying to insult you and say that tracking your own counts isn’t possible, but…
