In reply to: Login requires new password every timeOn multiple occasions, I’ve tried accessing it in multiple browsers, have cleared cookies and cache, and have reset the password from phpmyadmin. I am still required to reset my password every time I try to log in. Could this be a missing file? Bad code? Any other thoughts?

In reply to: Media Library empty after move & updateArgh… I don’t know why this is happening and it is such a pain in the neck.
But, I suppose it needs to be done. Thanks for the input.

In reply to: Login Screen Missing After New InstallAfter messing with it, now I can get to the login through http://www.ellenstevens.com/wp-login.php and then I get the blank screen.
Also, when look at the site from http://www.ellenstevens.com, everything looks okay until I try to leave a comment. Then it goes to a blank screen again.
Is there a load problem somewhere? Am I missing a file? Ideas?

Its a hack. It’s happening everywhere. You can upload with a fresh copy of function.php, but it will continue to reinfect every hour or so. There is some discussion here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/help-site-crashed?replies=31
I think I finally figured mine out.
1) On all my infected sites, I found a new file named 169b171bbdffdf3759850fef45515c67 among my root files. It looked strange so I deleted it, just in case.
2) Made sure I had backed up copies of MySql database. Also, downloaded necessary copies of any uploaded post images and theme revisions.
3) Deleted ALL OTHER FILES.
4) Manually reinstalled with a completely fresh version of WP 3.5.
5) Created a NEW wp-config.php file. Mine had a ton of extra code in it that I assume was infected.
6) Changed host password and WP passwords.
So far, so good. I’ve gone about 10 hours without getting hacked, so I think it worked.
Good luck!

In reply to: Help! Site crashed!?@digitalcashcrop I did notice that my wp-config.php file had an enormous amount of excess code in it that I didn’t recognize. So, I’m guessing that was definitely compromised.
My host has told me there is no need for them to scan because no one else has complained. I find that hard to believe.
At this point, I’m still up and running, so I think the complete overhaul of all files may have worked. Except that I may have screwed up the install. So, now I’m just trying to troubleshoot that.

In reply to: Help! Site crashed!?I think I’m getting closer to a fix. π
1) After updating all my sites to WP 3.5, and re-updating function.php over and over again for the past 48 hours, I decided I needed a do-over.
2) I found some really odd files in each of the roots for all of my domains. Didn’t recognize them so I just deleted them. I know. Not smart, but I did it. Files similar to: 234u823144f1237428021.
3) I backed up my theme and image files, deleted all files, and reinstalled with a fresh version of WP 3.5.
4) New issue with the install.
The site comes up fine – http://www.ellenstevens.com
However, when I try to access http://www.ellenstevens.com/wp-admin I get a blank screen.
When I try to access http://www.ellenstevens.com/wp-login I get a 404 error.What am I missing?

In reply to: Help! Site crashed!?Updated function.php and it cleared up! Great!
I believe it was definitely a hack in my case, as all three sites were using different WP versions, and only one is used consistently.
My webhost is: Lunar Pages http://www.lpwebhosting.com They used to be great, but lately I’m not so sure.
How can I avoid this in the future?
I have to say, I was grateful that you could see my current function.php file and tell it was corrupted, but equally concerned that you could see it. Is that normal? How do I prevent it for being hacked?

In reply to: site disappeared or hacked. help?!After deleting and reloading the latest version (WP 2.8.6), I’ve been able to decode the new password set by the hacker. I now can log into my dashboard.
However, the blog still doesn’t appear when I pull up the domain.
Any thoughts about a specific file/setting I should check?
