    Hi @wfmargaret , thank you for your help. I followed your recommendations by disabling low-resource scanning, adjusting the maximum execution time for each scan stage, and excluding the confirmed cache directory from the scan. The Wordfence scan now completes successfully.
    This confirms that the large number of cached files was causing the scanner to exceed its fork limit. The issue is now resolved, so this ticket can be closed. Thank you again for reviewing the diagnostics and helping identify the cause.

    Additional information from WP Engine’s access-log review: at the exact Wordfence failure time, 27 August 2026 at 03:50:37 UTC, the wordfence_doScan request returned HTTP 200. Subsequent wordfence_doScan requests continued returning HTTP 200 through at least 03:52:58 UTC.

    WP Engine found no corresponding PHP fatal errors and no 5xx responses involving the Wordfence scan endpoint during that period. This suggests the web server continued accepting Wordfence’s scan requests and that the scan was terminated by Wordfence’s internal infinite-loop detection rather than by a hosting timeout.

    I have also sent the Wordfence Diagnostics report using the forum username associated with this topic.

    Actually resolved this one in case anyone else has the issue. I was running a plugin called AUTOPTIMIZE to help with page load speed and it was causing issues with the Javascript on the page

    I am also having the same issue with variations only I noticed something extra:

    I had 2 attributes and when setting the variations I left one of them set to the “ANY [ATTRIBUTE]” option by mistake and saved the settings.

    I then noticed it and went back and changed that variation to the specific attribute I wanted and saved again.

    I then noticed that the variation which I originally set correctly had been reset to “ANY [ATTRIBUTE]” but that now the 2nd variation was correct.

    It created a loop where each time I tried to change one it would set the other variation to “ANY [ATTRIBUTE]”.

    In order to fix this I had to set both variations to “ANY [ATTRIBUTE]” then save the changes, then reset each variation to the specific attribute and save the changes

    Finally it worked, but so ridiculously frustrating!

    Hope the release a fix soon coz this is doing my head in :-/
