Turned out I was still using WP 3.0.1 and the Yoast SEO plugin is not compatible with this version.
Just upgraded WP and works like a charm now. Thanks for your help.
@primitivenet I could give you the url, but the plugin is deactivated now, so there will be nothing to see there.
