Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 2 config files?hey tim. i downloaded a bitnami wordpress stack and i have been trying to develop locally. now I’m stuck hence wanting to install on the server so people can help me with the design/plug-ins etc. i moved the wordpress files to my desktop and then uploaded that but i think i need to upload the whole bitnami stack not just the wordpress folder. do u have any experience with bitnami? i’ve just deleted the wordpress files i had on the server & now need to find out what I need to upload from the wordpress stack. this might be causing the problem. intially with the upload i made i could call up the readme page but nothing else. just was saying ‘page is temporarily not available’. i’ll find out what I need to upload with the Bitnami and then I’ll post the url. thanks a lot for the feedback.

In reply to: password for my wordpressthanks samuel. have just been on to the hosting company. they told me i can use the temporary url for people to navigate to my wordpress folder. as an example they told me to navigate to the readme.html using this temporary url & this worked fine. how do i access the whole site though? i can’t bring up the rest of the site. the hosting company said it would be fine if everything was properly configured.

In reply to: installing wordpress on a submenuok so my site root is a folder on my desktop. so i install wordpress into that folder. is that correct? i thought I could manage my WordPress files in Dreamweaver, no? i already put some files in and have been working that way. but i’m guessing. i’m learning php as i go. so where do I edit my php pages if not in Dreamweaver?

Thanks Mike. After a lot of tinkering around I managed to change the width of the post but that doesn’t allow the sidebar to jump up. In google developer tools i can see the post width change and the rest of the area to the right is pink. I can’t see what is controlling it but it does say ‘user agent stylesheet’`div { display:block; }. I don’t know how to access or change this. I think on Monday I’m gonna sort me out some hosting space and put this up for people to view. Thanks for the feedback. It’s appreciated.
Thanks for that Mike. I’ll give the firebug a shot. this my first time designing WordPress. The original site designed in Dreamweaver is up and running. I’m planning to replace it with the WordPress when it’s done which is why it’s not live yet. Do you know is some other way i could make it live for people to view?
i’ve just tried that and I’ve changed from 4 columns to 3 columns which changes my layout of images but doesn’t affect the position of my sidebar. do you have any other suggestions as to what I can do? I guess I just don’t understand if I need to change the width of a particular div and if so which one and if i do it through the theme or through NextGen. thanks
do you mean to go into the Dashboard in WP and go to Gallery there? I don’t have gallery -> gallery settings. Do I go in to the style sheet?
