Hi Radices,
Thank you so much for your help. You are right. After calling my host for help they believe the problem was with the wordpress plugin “bad behaviour” an anti-spam plugin that must have changed or altered code within the htaccess file.
If anyone had the same issue as me. Delete the old htaccess file like Radices said and then click save in settings > permalinks and that generates a new htaccess file which seems to have cured the problem totally.
It seems like other people have had issues with this plugin. My advise is don’t download it.
