  • I’ve had similar problems with Dreamweaver; for some reason it will make weird changes to templates. I would suggest just using a notepad editor or the Theme Editor from within the WP-Admin interface – this solved a lot of problems for me, as DW was doing weird things to my code in between the local file moving to the server.

Oh – yeah, sorry, I have the main page (and only the main page) set to go to a certain size onLoad, which I will probably be taking off shortly – I was just trying to get a feel for the dimensions (I was a tech writer, not a graphic designer, so the term “800 pixels” means little to me and still boggles my brain).

I agree with the earlier posts – a seperate blog makes things much easier than trying to hack away at the code, which I unsuccessfully tried. I have been working on something organized pretty much the same as what you described, and I found that seperate blogs work much better; although, I would recommend using separate databses if you can. Granted, you CAN use the same database with the “as-is” WordPress installation, but I have had a few bugs once I started adding plug-ins. Another great thing about the separate blogs is you can use the RSS feed from one and still “preview” the posts in that blog if you want, so from an end-user perspective it won’t necessarily feel like a whole seperate area of the Web site. I mean, it will – but in a good way – not in that “where am I?” way …

one more thing and I’ll sut up – if you go to the main domain – the “home” home page – you can see the button version of wimpy in the bottom left corner … its very handy if you don’t necessarily want track info or anything

Oh – I meant to add also that mine isn’t in the sidebare, but you can easily customize a wimpy version that would fit in there …

I currently use wimpy, and I love it … you can see it at [URL removed – see comment below] (but PLEASE keep in mind that the site isn’t officially “up” yet – I’m in the midst of grad school, so just have been getting it together in a few hours here and there … ) anyway, its great, and HIGHLY customizable … I just use it as an include, and furthermore, I can make different playlists load for different pages –

I am doing the same thing, and I have found the FeedWordPress Plug-In (http://projects.radgeek.com/feedwordpress) to be the easiest and most user-friendly way to do this; granted, their are several others out there, but I had different quirks and bugs with lots of them, while this one seemd to be no problem …

Oh – and just in case anyone stumbles across this forum with a similar problem, the “global $wpdb; ” was already in the code after each function, fortunately – so I didn’t have to change that …

Works like a charm! Many many thanks again! I’m just going to send this fix to the plug-in author and let him add it to the next version if he wants … anyway, thanks!

Ok – thanks – I am about to try it now on a fresh install and see if it works – if it does, should I make it available somewhere? – surely I am not the only hapless individual way over his head who had this problem …

Well, I don’t think there is a space in the table name – just very bad typing on my part … Anyway, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! …. you have saved me so much time, coffee, and clueless stares into a PHP manual and the WP code …

I use it and I love it – I mean, it could be better – I wish it were a bit more adaptive to my laziness, but still, as far as my purposes – which is basically converting atom.feeds into rss – its great; I’ve even had it handle images and thumbnails with no glitch, so I can’t complain. It is slightly slower, but we’re talking a matter of minutes – unless your feeds HAVE to be updated every minute or two, it should be fine – I also like that they have a lot of free tweaks and tricks to do to your feed – it’s fun to play around with …
