By the way, I removed the ‘Admin’ user straight after getting the warning message – something I should have remembered to do at the very beginning…

What I want to be able to do is send out a (customisable) message when I add a new user, say as a Contributor, so that the invitation is more personal than just a link to the website and their password. How do I do this on a .org site?

I recognise that they are different, but I’m still not sure I understand how this difference prevents the Invite function being an option on a .org site. When there is demand for it, why can’t it be included as part of the basic function of managing users?

Having checked a number of forums on this topic, there seems to be some demand for the option to invite users on a wp.org site as there is on a wp.com one. But the responses from wp come across as a bit dismissive each time, not unlike the one above. The question is why – why is it not possible to have this option on wp.org? The various plug-ins relating to managing users appear to focus on existing users inviting other users, not the administrator alone – I can’t find one that does the simple job that the wp.com does. Please explain!
