Can I use the Form Fields to create custom fields but NOT display them during registration?
Yes. You can also hide them from the Manage Subscription Page
Can I populate/update the fields using an IMPORT?
Yes, you can update your subscribers via CSV import.
Can I then use [Shortcodes] in the campaigns?
Yes, it doesn’t really matter how the Custom Fields have been populated.
If #1 is not possible, a) can I add custom fields to the MailPoet Subscription records using (i.e., add_action or ????” in the functions.php (using a child theme)?
This is not possible with the MailPoet plugin out of the box.
However, it might be possible with some custom code. If you need help with custom code, you can reach out to someone from Codeable: https://codeable.io.

That’s a really good question.
But I was not able to let my subscribers choose their segments on the “Manage Subscription” page.
You can create a custom field as described in the tutorial below, and add it to your subscription form. Then create a segment based on that custom field:
Then you could create the following segments:
- A segment for those interested in Cars AND Nature. Those would receive both post notifications
- A segment for those in Cars only
- A segment for those interested in Nature only
Please give it a try and let us know how it goes.
Having said that, our team is currently working in the MailPoet Automation Engine, and, at some point, it will allow you to perform automations similar to the one that you are trying to achieve in an easier way.
